WRECKED Monte Carlo SS-My New Daily Driver? Junkyard Crawl and Repairs

I picked up this 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo SS with the 3.8 to use as a daily driver. One catch, it's wrecked in the front. We go to the local pick n pulls to scrounge up some repair parts in order to make me a cheap daily driver to work and back!

Good video! I agree with you on the late 1990s early 2000s GM cars. Everything's "adjustable" LOL. Had a 2001 Buick Regal. Loved that thing. Fantastic ride great handling with the "Eurosport tuned"suspension. I Eben had a BMW lover friend of mine comment that i drive it like a bimmer after I wound my way through rush hour one day. My response "That's because the car handles like a BMW!!" Plus, that 3.8 was an awesome motor.

Was real pleased to see this upload after reading about this on your social media; this is great, I'd take something like this as main channel content any day but I get how newer 'normal' cars can be a slippery slope when your content is kinda geared towards rusty gems and whatnot. Honestly, a video of going to the scrap yard and actually getting something back together is a lot more relatable content imo. Thanks for bringing us along man.

Prices at LKQ have gotten silly, plus the “core” charge on everything and mandatory “warranty” you have to tell them to remove every time. I have to drive another 45 min but there is a yard near me that sells everything as is but they sell it cheap. Got some electric radiator fans for $17.50 each just this week.

That Monte brought back some memories. I had one for a little bit. 2000 SS, double black. Dad bought it used, and I got it as my graduation present in 2006. Drove it for almost a year, actually drove it past 100k. I’d turn traction control off and stomp the gas which would do an awesome little standing burnout. Then I got t-boned in the front left fender. My fault, was making a left and didn’t see the person going straight in the inside lane as there were 2 vehicles making a right from the same direction. Jeep Liberty hit me at about 40 mph. Fun time, hit my head against the glass(no side curtain air bags). No fractured skull, no broken glass. Was actually pretty lucky, about 5 feet forward more and it’d have hit the drivers door and me. Bent the subframe and shoved an axle shaft into the trans, cracking the housing. Puked trans fluid onto the road, which was there for a long time. Obviously totaled the car, but seeing as most of the ones I’ve seen here in Michigan are rotting out big time in the quarters I’m not too upset anymore. Anyway, if anyone read this whole thing sorry for possibly wasting your time haha. Like I said, it brought back some memories!

I hit those same 2 yards all the time. Headed in this weekend to grab a differential for my Bonneville and an A/C compressor for the step son. Half the fun is the search and seeing all the other stuff in the yard. It's always interesting to speculate how some of the vehicles ended up in the junkyard.

@@outsidethebarn Ah yeah that'll do it. I think a teenager had my 2000 Nissan Sentra 5 speed, someone ditch bagged it bad, the entire passengers side floorpan is beat, on the front the lower control arm, tie rods were both replaced with new parts and the spindle and strut have junkyard writing on them, plus the paint don't match on the bumper, and the rad support is a bit crooked, sooo, yeah... I just pretend like I don't know any of that when I beat on that POS and redline the 1.8L powerhouse of a four cylinder and enjoy the magical, amazing air conditioning.

Mom was just with me the next thing I know when we got to the car to go home she ask me where I wanted these fuses. She pulled all the relays and fuses and had them in her pockets . Needless to say she we got our 6 dollars worth of fuses and relays. I've used at least 3 fuses and one relay.

We found a nearly perfect 97 Camaro in a neighbor's garage with that same 3.8 motor a month or so ago (see exploding ether video on my channel) that had mouse-chewed spark plug wires, a bad crank position sensor, harmonic balancer, fuel pump. But otherwise rust free, trunk and wheel wells are perfect. Believe me, in NY, you just don't find survivors like this every day. Anywho, I like the motor at 200ish HP. It could use more, but for a summertime DD? It's fine. Frankly, my wife couldn't handle an LS powered one.
