I haven't watched in a while, but my understanding from comments on other videos is that Mike was on vacation when they changed studios. So this version of the gag actually makes even more sense than Ellen's. What I'm curious about is how/when they filmed it. I can't imagine they actually rented out the Brighton studio just for this one bit, so I think there's a solid chance they actually filmed this before the move. Which, if true, says a lot about how well this channel prepares. I once asked during an early Spook stream if Andy was doing NaNoWriMo since he'd revealed himself as a pretty awesome horror writer at that point, and his response indicated that he already knew most of their November schedule well in advance. It feels like a rare feat to have a team that's as excellent as off-the-cuff comedy as they are in their streams, yet also excels at comedy that requires them to prepare well ahead of time.

It's like why didn't they just go with the last fall safe first? There's really nothing gained from having the other ones before it, so it's just odd to me that they went through the trouble to do that. Makes me think the final fail safe might bug out at times and soft lock the game so they just put extra fail safes ahead of it to lower the edge cases of someone getting soft locked (that's just my theory, no idea in reality why they did it).

In Armored Core 6, there is a special interaction with AllMind if you have refused to do any of the tutorial stuff despite getting critical weapons and components for free upon completing the easy tutorial. AllMind is basically both flabbergasted, somewhat impressed, but ultimately confused why you would miss out on this one section that clearly gives you important items and that you got all the way to essentially the hidden ending of the game without doing any of the tutorial. I must also stress that because Armored Core 6 only has 1 save file, you must have avoided the tutorial from the start, or you have deleted the save file even on the cloud.

In Dragon Age: Origins, it is possible to do the mission to find the Urn of Sacred Ashes *before* you do the Redcliffe mission. That's significant because the latter mission concludes with the character of Arl Eamon needing the urn to be cured. That's usually when the player first gets the mission that opens up the area of the map where the urn is found. So, ordinarily players must do Redcliff first, then find the urn. However, the player can skip that by instead going to the town of Denerim, entering a specific house there and talking with a specific NPC about the urn. These are all things that the game doesn't prompt the player to do. Do them anyway and retrieve the Urn and that will open up amusing dialogue later on in the Redcliffe mission: Some NPCs will bemoan the fact that Arl Eamon can only be cured by ashes taken from the Urn but the relic has been lost for ages. The player character then says, in effect, "Oh, that? I already found it and I've got some of the ashes right here." The astonished NPCs reply that the player is a true miracle worker.

From Mass Effect 2, two words: "Probing Uranus." An opposite example, where despite the setup the devs didn't include the option to realize what was going to happen: the Witcher 3 mission where you investigate the murders in the morgue. It is very, painfully obvious that you are hunting a higher vampire. I went into the final encounter with vampire oil equipped and traits selected to prepare me for a vampire encounter. In fact, the bestiary and game lore had prepared me with ominous hints about how powerful higher vampires are and how Witchers would sometimes turn down contracts for them. Despite this, I went into the battle fully prepared and had to watch a cutscene where Geralt acted shocked that his prey was a higher vampire.

Dark Souls 1, the Black Knight at the top of the tower in the Undead Parish. It's actually a very sensible thing for the player to 1) clear some space down below and then 2) go to the top of the tower, aggro the Knight, and lure him down the stairs so you can fight him in an area that's wider than his massive ultra greatsword is long. The problem is that the Black Knight will often play dumb, only following you halfway down and then going back up like he's forgotten about you. Then, on like your 5th trip back up to fetch him, he will actually jump down from the top to a ledge below, hide just around the curve of the tower out of sight like a troll, and smash your head in with his sword as you emerge from the staircase wondering where he's gone.
@draconusfrigidus3 ай бұрын
Dark Souls 1 has hundreds of gems for thinking outside the box: The dragon tail sword can be easily obtained by buying a ton of arrows and shooting the dragon from under the bridge in Undead Parish (it'll take damage but won't attack you because you're too far away). The capra demon can be defeated from outside its arena by positioning yourself in just the right spot to toss fire bombs through the damaged part of the archway above the fog gate. Sif can be taken out from outside their arena by triggering their boss fight, dying, then doing a bit of jumping to climb the toppled part of the wall, where you can then hit them with poison arrows till they perish (this also works on Manus if you shoot at where he's lurking underneath the entrance to his arena). The Iron Golem can be tricked into falling off the edge of its arena. Ceaseless Discharge can be literally walked to its demise by just goading it to follow you till it walks right off the edge of the lava flow. The list just goes on.

Not sure if this counts but in Paper Mario TTYD in Chapter 4 you meet the main antagonist of the chapter early on. He's a ghost who steals 2 things that belong to you and promises to give them back if you can guess his name. If you already know his name you can type it in. Except you can't because one of the letters needed to spell his name is of course the only one missing.

I remember the first Deus Ex, when, in my second playthrough, at the end of the private Airport part on the plane, I, mostly just out of fun, put all the mines I had on me in the way before the last room. Thought it would be fun to see Anna Navarre just walk through some explosions. Didn't expected to blow her up and the game actually aknowledged this and change all the Scenes where she was part of (and even the characters mentioning it from time to time).

Props to Reddit users for finding this one: Mineru's mask in Dragonhead Island can be accessed without unlocking the Regional Phenomena quest line, but when you approach, "You feel a sense from the object on the pedestal that the time is not yet right to be here." You can approach Purah for the first time with armor gained from completing all the shrines, complete the depths without unlocking any more shrines, and beat the Rito region's boss with Zonai builds as transport, but, without a single Tower active, the Fifth Sage quest can't progress past finding her mask.

Pokémon Gen 2 anticipates a move like the neuroplasticity calibrator in Deus Ex, except it cuts you off. Claire wants the Dragon Fang from the Dragon Cave behind her gym, and when you find the Dragon Fang there she comes into the cave and brings you the badge. If you just happen to have one from another save and try to give it to her in the gym straightaway without going into the cave, she tells you off for trying to cheat and insists you go get the REAL one from the cave. You could argue that all of early Pokémon saw you coming as well, locking HM moves until you get the right badge and making a Pokémon ignore you half the time if it's a high-level one you traded in from another save.

The Legend of Kyrandia: first time your character encounters the villain, Malcom, he'll give you one move after missing you with one of three knives he's juggling. Do anything other than throw it back, the next knife won't miss and game over. This includes SAVING YOUR GAME.
