Local Greek here: "ptero" is Greek for wing and ferns are probably called "pteridae" because they're wing-like. In modern Greek ferns are called "fteres", you can see how that came about. As a side-note, "dactylo" is Greek for finger, so a pterodactyl is a "wingfinger"

That restaurant has also previously been named for serving the most expensive hamburger, the most expensive hot dog, and the most expensive grilled cheese sandwich. It's sort of their thing - being wild and wacky and kitschy but also ludicrously expensive. They tend to attract wealthy tourists and other thrill-seekers with deep pockets. It was also shut down in 2007 for spectacularly failing two consecutive health inspections in a matter of weeks. This was at a time when they were well-known for an ice cream sundae topped with special chocolate, exotic candies, truffles, liqueurs, caviar, and "edible" gold leaf, served in crystal goblet with a gold spoon - priced at $1,000. Presumably, it also came with a light dusting of mouse fur, rat droppings, and cockroach remains, which were just some of the reasons why the restaurant was shut down. It reopened shortly after, however, and suffered no loss of business - if anything, its status and popularity grew and grew as it inevitably become a fixture of social media posts for wealthy influencers.

You know, offering free funerals (or even coffins) probably isn't bad public policy. Funerals are expensive! A lot of that comes from corporate consolidation of funeral homes, as Adam Ruins Everything covered a few years back, and this policy wouldn't do anything to stop that, but the fact still remains that for a lot of families, with death comes debt. Local governments funding funerals for people who know they're nearing the end of their lives would probably help their families be able to focus on the grieving process when the time comes. Even better if it's paired with antitrust laws (that take investors into account) and price controls (that introduce minor, proportional controls along the whole supply chain instead of just one part, eventually adding up to a big cost reduction for the consumer without reducing business viability). Political opponents would spin it so fast it'd cause a tornado warning, of course ("Local Politician to Elderly: You're Going to Die"), but people would be helped, and that's the main thing.

Since no one else has answered in the 5 months since this streamed, the screaming in the Harold Diddlebock clip was old-timey shorthand for liquor being very strong, especially stronger than the drinker is used to. Since it's Harold's first drink of his life in the movie, that also explains why he doesn't even realize he's the one doing it.

12:27 It's more perplexing than that-- the Siege of Yorktown was from September to October of that year, so the letter was probably written and delivered _before_ Cornwallis' surrender. Technically, American independence wasn't formalized until the Treaty of Paris in 1783.
