#4: The original version of Super Mario Bros 2 was way too dificult for many players in the west , so that's why we got the altered version of Super Mario Bros 2. The original was only released in Japan, untill it was rebranded as the lost levels in Super Mario All Stars.
@rna1515 жыл бұрын
That's not the only reason. Japan SMB2 followed up its original within less than a year on the Famicom Disk System. Nintendo had originally intended to release the disk system in the west as well but dithered and by the point they finally decided firmly against it years had passed and the standards on NES games had gone way up as cartridge add-on chips to give the NES hardware new capabilities became commonplace. In the face of this Japan SMB2 with its 99% recycled graphics and sound and high difficulty coming in years late as the followup to Nintendo of America's foundational game seemed likely to damage the brand. And heck, it probably would have. Maybe it'd be a different story if it'd come along in the same time frame as it did in Japan but by this point people expected more out of a sequel and certainly more out of a would-be Super Mario Brothers 2.
@zzasdfwas5 жыл бұрын
Also, Luigi could jump higher than Mario in the original smb2, so the statement about Luigi's jump ability becoming canon is incorrect.

No. They're on the same engine and have some superficial similarities, but they aren't the same game. SWGB is much more conservatively balanced with early game econ bonuses being either very small or counterbalanced by penalties. Also, it has player controlled flying units, which AoE2 does not. Calling SWGB an AoE2 clone is as accurate as calling Jedi Knight 2 and 3 clones of whichever Quake iteration their engine is licensed from. Some units behave similarly as some firearms in FPSs behave similarly, but the overall dynamic is different and there are additional mechanics not used in the base game.

Fun fact about Super Mario Bros 2: Even though the USA version originates from Doki Doki Panic, the game that later became Doki Doki Panic was originally going to be a Mario game after all. Shigeru Miyamato envisioned a Mario game with vertical scrolling in addition to horizontal scrolling. The game idea was scrapped and a new Super Mario Bros 2 was made (the one we know as the Lost Levels) because some things didn't work as originally intended. But the pre-Doki Doki Panic version of SMB2 does have some information about it - the underground had a cool remix of the SMB underground theme and at the end of the game there was something with money won. It also didn't take place in a dream or a book but in another realm of the Mushroom Kingdom. Introducing new enemies was nothing new, though, as if you remember Mario Bros had different enemies from Super Mario Bros (except the shellcreepers which were renamed as koopa troopas).
On number three you forgot to mention Kirby's Avalanche. Crazy how all three look exactly the same. Once you got good at this game it was really addictive in vs mode.

Nerf Arena Blast WAS Unreal. It was made in Unreal engine, and came with a level editor. There were actually sites to download maps for it! Also, it was actually pretty cool!

Puyopuyo is crazy addictive. I've always preferred it to Tetris and it's so satisfying to put together a chain reaction and drop two rows of grey beans on your opponent.

SMB2 *did* start life as SMB2 and was a straight (but harder) sequel to the first SMB game but someone (in their infinite wisdom) thought American audiences would deem it too difficult so they took Doki Doki Panic! (an existing Famicom Disk System game) and changed the graphics. SMB2 would come out on later on SNES as "The Lost Levels" in the All Stars pack.

Hellwyck One of my favorite SM games tbh. My favorite being the one with the zones. Don’t remember the name 🙃😅

Except that before the game became Doki Doki Panic it was indeed Super Mario Bros 2. One that scrolled vertically rather than horizontally.

Hey. Blair Witch Volume 1 was cool! I personally liked that it was an additional episode of Nocturne with some extra game mechanics. It's a pity though that they had to cut the epilogue for some reason - the one where she leaves the city and shares a few extra words with the Stranger. You can only read it in the script (Google it).

The scaling on Tourist trophy was also massively out of proportion, racing on some of the original GT tracks makes the bikes look huge, that and the ability to launch them to space was also worth a giggle.

15:40 - The bear named “Burt” hiding in a bush was, I think you’ll find, absolutely referenced in the bible. The only difference is he was on fire, and presented to Moses as a sign from God. The Burting Bush. Obviously.

Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean machine was one of my favorite sega games ever. Especially the Music in the Stage 13 Cutscene where he jumps out of the hovercraft to yell at scratch and grounder. I loved the music from that part.
