Not exactly. Something she didn't expect happened. Because Desmond doesn't die there. He goes into the simulation, or rather between the simulations, something like that.

@@daviddaugherty2816 That's because Ubisoft wanted to milk the franchise while Patrice Desilets wanted to end it at 3. Desmond was supposed to use what he learned in the animus to take down Abstergo, you know the obvious thing we were building to over the course of the previous 4 games, but Ubisoft wanted it to go on indefinitely, so now we have the modern day story which is just useless baggage more than anything else.

The satisfaction in Bugsnax’s ending is in finishing all the sidequests to make all these grumpuses no longer reliant on bugsnax! They aren’t gonna just eat them during the finale if you did their sidequests and even Lizbert and Eggabel revert to their normal grumpus forms during a slideshow in the credits!

Almost all the issues that the AC franchise has can be traced back to that ending. Killing Desmond off after building him up as the main protagonist of the series was so out of left field. The whole franchise lost focus. After that none of the games had anything to do with each other. They also tried to make Juno the main antagonist, but then dropped it only appearing in Black Flag briefly and that’s it. They killed her off in a comic. It’s clear they had no idea where to take the story when the early AC games kind of felt like they were building to a game set in modern day with Desmond as the main character.

What makes AC3s ending even worse in hindsight, is the fact that the ENTIRE plot that was birthed from Desmond dying, wasn't even resolved in a game, but relegated to a comic that no one read... You get the creepy ghost in the machine Juno in Syndicate, but then every game after that just have zero mention of Juno as even remotely plot relevant. For anyone curious, i'm gonna give a very basic overview of what happens to this plot. Turns out Desmond had a completely unknown son who is also a Sage, and after shennanigans, Juno is killed. Hundreds of game hours wasted, just to set up the plot for a damn comic!

They're definitely disappointing endings. The entire game has a theme of synthetic life being valuable and even good for the universe, and then the game basically pushes you to the weirdest extremes of the various options. I initially chose synthesis when I played the series for the first time recently because that seemed the most on theme and then it turned out it wasn't at all what I was expecting and not satisfying. Destroy and Control were such extremes and didn't feel right. Refuse obviously not a good option. Destroy feels the most canon to me with the update they added for it, but highly disappointing.

Killzone Shadow Fall springs to mind for me. You fight your way all the way up to Stahl, ready to kill him, but then suddenly your mentor shows up and kills you both, then immediately cuts to credits. Sure, there’s that mid-credits scene where you take control of Echo and kill the traitor yourself, but it cuts to black before the bullet hits him, and the game just ends. Both endings are severe letdowns.

Funny thing about the Assassin's Creed one... Juno was clearly being set up to be an antagonist for the game series, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to suspect that Desmond's replacement protagonist would end up facing her at some point.... that is, if Juno wasn't summarily killed off in the supplementary material that is the comic books. What a dumb-as-nails decision...

The ending to Assassin's Creed 3 is such a wild, baffling left turn. The solar flare plotline feels thoroughly unconnected to the plotline we've been following with the Assassins and Templars, getting a little bit of foreshadowing in the form of vague, "something is coming " messages in previous games, but nothing much beyond that. And the fact that Desmond MUST die in order for the machine to activate feels so contrived. Why would demigods devise a machine that requires someone to get electrocuted to death in order to activate it? At least the endings in Mass Effect 3 where you die all had some kind of justification for why Shepard can't live, whether it involved their enhancements shutting off via EMP, them needing to shed their body to transfer their consciousness or their cells getting repurposed to re-write the galaxy's genetic code. The door lock killing Desmond just feels entirely arbitrary and also feels like they could have had someone else do it, like possibly his Father who's a dick for the whole game and has a lifetime of mistakes to atone for.
@killertruth186
@killertruth186 4 ай бұрын
True, although they could make an explanation to unlock the door it requires genetics of the ancient civilization or whatnot. And then said his blood/genetics is too impure for him to open the door with no harm.

@Cuiasodo 4 ай бұрын
@@killertruth186 Makes it even weirder that Desmond's dad didn't do it instead, unless all of the assassin DNA was on his mother's side, which I don't think was the case. It's so painfully obvious that the devs didn't know what to do with Desmond and got cold feet about going with their original plan (there was going to be some REALLY COOL stuff with Desmond being the main protagonist modern-day), so they just tossed in a half-baked plan to kill him off and not have to worry about writing a satisfying ending for him.

OR, call me crazy the 'Demigod' AI whose systems Desmond has experienced hijacking his body is lying. It says solar flares will set off volcanoes and kill near everybody on the planet which sounds screwy. Add in the inconsistencies from the rest of the scene and here is an alternative. Juno is hoping to reprogram humanity to more fit with the original intentions. Juno needs access to other artifacts across the world to accomplish this. Juno detects artifacts frequencies and maybe potential access codes in Desmond from his interaction with Apple of Eden and wants it as quickly as possible. Juno supplies a story of how humanity is threatened by an inaccessible force (the sun) that it knows causes damage (solar flares hurt technology consistently). Juno presents two options to Desmond due to records of lack of choice causes resistance. And either way offering protection or knowledge have him touch the access panel. Killing him as you rip everything out just means he cannot stop you with his access later. then the green field does its intended purpose all over the world as shown in scene. everyone modded won't know to think to stop you. this would kind of make the Templar correct as well? maybe?

Far Cry 5’s ending is just so deeply cynical, it’s wild. The game is so eager to court imagery of doomsday cults, even incorporating aspects of far-right evangelical imagery, but also making sure the cult is nice and diverse and kinda hippy just in case anyone made the mistake of thinking Ubisoft were trying to say anything. And then, even after slogging through all of that, the game reshapes the world around its antagonist to justify him, all for a cheap twist that does nothing beyond a momentary “huh”

Star Fox Adventures. In the prologue, you meet the main villain of the story, General Scales. In every encounter you come across him, he is strong, oppressive force that you have difficulty overcoming. When you finally get to actually battle him at the end of the game, he dies before you can do anything. You then learn it's just Star Fox series antagonist Andross behind it all and the real final battle is a watered-down version of every other Star Fox final battle - a space battle against Andross' oversized floating head. Only, in this game, space combat is not a central mechanic and is, more or less, a way to traverse between sections of the planet. This means all of the running around, learning new abilities, figuring out staff combat and all of the stuff the game was doing more than anything else? Ends up you just needed to be decent in the Arwing to win the game. It also means that the villain who you had been menacing you the entire game is relegated to a "gotcha" moment. You never fight him and never get satisfaction for defeating him. This, of course, was the last game that Rare did for Nintendo and it's ending is so lackluster and disappointing that it seems as if Rare just phoned in the ending. A truly sour note to end their run with Nintendo... something that seems to have given them a lot of negative karma over, seeing how much they've fallen since.

Why is he propelling himself with a sledgehammer? Why are you trying to climb to the top of this very unlikely mountain? It doesn't matter. None of this matters. But you want to try anyway. every time i see a list like this, i'm reminded of Drakan: The Ancients' Gates, a weird little number for ps2 where you fly around on dragon back and fight stuff with swords and magic and after this really exciting game that was, in it's way, way ahead of the curve you get... a few still images of a book. thanks guys.

What happened to the whole plotline with the Apple of Eden, the Templars plan of world domination, the modern assassin resistance movement? I guess I was right in thinking "they have no idea what they're doing" after the ending of AC2 when they went "uh yeah actually the gods of old are really an alien race and uh, something something. buy our next game!"

What sucks about Farcry 5 is that I liked it so much! I'm a sucker for a cult centered story and Joseph Seed was very much what I imagine an American born cult leader to look like. But that ending just... Killed me. I know it was foreshadowed on the radios and notes throughout the game but man... There was something so frustrating about it. The way nothing you did mattered, because everyone still died, and Joseph won. I will forever be salty.

It's the only game I've played where the ending made me angry. Other games have made me angry for things like bad camera controls, or annoying mechanics like having to drink a gallon of water every five minutes. But FC5 was a *fun game*, I enjoyed my time playing it. And then the ending came and told me I wasted my time. Like, what, really? I almost didn't even buy FC6 because FC5's ending poisoned the series so badly.

i really dont get why Far Cry 5 always shows up on these lists? the bombs will go anyway, you can listen to the ingame radio news or read newspapers about the raising tentions between US and China/Russia, so Joseph was right in his revelations. the only "GOOD" ending here is the one where you do nothing at the beginning and dont trigger the whole world's over.

Heh I don't think I've ever "raged" harder at a game than FC5... It was trying way too hard to outdo the ending of FCs 3 and 4... but the thing about the FC3 and FC4 endings was none of the options invalidated your experience of the game. They made you question your choices while also making the hours you sank into the game meaningful. FC5 was like "haha fuck you no matter what every hour you spent in this game was meaningless. Aren't we deep? AREN'T WE DEEP?!?!?!"
@Mrchair905

I thought it was pretty good. 5 is my favorite far cry game in the series. Not everything needs some deep meaning happy ending. Sometimes bad things just happen and there isn’t a thing you can do about it, even as an invincible viddy game guy. You can’t control everything and it’s outcome.
@gilgazack9403

@@Mrchair905 is a dumb nihilism ending no one says it should had a happy ending but "nothing matters cuz everyone dies lol" is a dumb way to end your game , joseph could have been right, the bombs could have hit but everyone dying is lame AF, a better ending would have been the bombs hitting far from where everyone is and everyone realizing Joseph was right and freeing him at the end cuz they are scared and then give you the choice to shoot him or rebuild alongside him
@nemilyk
@nemilyk 4 ай бұрын
@@gilgazack9403 When you look at them, none of the endings of FC4 were happy either: you either turn Kyrat into an oppressive drug state, turn it into an oppressive theocracy, or keep it in the current authoritarian regime. But none of those invalidate your gameplay or devolve into total nihilism like you said. It also makes absolutely no sense that throughout FC5 the Seeds just have uber-soldiers who just occasionally decide to come out of nowhere and hit you with a bullet or even an arrow (that just knock you out instead of doing grievous bodily harm) while you're several thousand feet in the air in a helicopter...? It's just such an obvious game mechanic that's so utterly hand-waved it feels so lazy and borderline insulting, because IMO FC5 was just the devs wanting to force set up their post apocalyptic direction of taking the franchise. As, IIRC, FCND gives you that choice to kill Joseph or recruit him to rebuild too. IDK, I only got far enough in ND to hear them finally bring him up when I finally noped out of it too.

Not entirely true, there is an ending where she lives it just requires a bit of work. If i remember correctly you have to find every single vestige in an area before you fight the Boss in said area. That gives you the best ending where she actually lives at the very end and leaves with your party.
