Are we sure it's not just because they do not do well in captivity? Neurotic behaviors are a huge problem with animals in captivity - understandably so. Humans go nuts after a couple of days in isolation. Owls are close to the top of the food chain, and apex predators tend to have rather large home ranges. Being confined and unable to hunt or fly may just make them shut down or behave erratically. I'm genuinely curious. I am also a biologist, but I don't have much background in ethology or behaviorism.

@@AthAthanasius Nah, cats try to conserve energy as much as possible so they have to be REALLY motivated to cooperate with training. Owls just have no idea what's going on, ever.

@@johnwrath3612 Owls are good at one thing and only that one thing. They are TERRIBLE generalists. Everything outside of capturing small mammals (and even that, a lot of the time) is way out of their league. Those huge eyes don't leave much room for a brain. (But as a falconer who works with them, I absolutely love them. They really are dumb as rocks, though.) Given the choice, they will sit in a tree 95% of the time and not move, so it's certainly not a confinement issue.

@@Drocksas not sure on stat numbers but id say high dex and difficult to hit.maybe high charisma as they can be adorable if you dont know better. Low attack numbers since bill is not pointed and sharp, but has a chance to inflict extra damage since geese and swans twist anything they get ahold of. Abilities would be adorable innocents where the goose uses its charisma and any modifier to look so cute they cant be attacked Angry Canadian hellbird , intimidation where the goose hisses with the anger of a thousand banshies and seems to grow in size with eyes turning red with hate. If target fails throw they are either scared and petrified or lose their nerve and run. Based again on charisma and any intimidate skills and level modifiers.

Edit: about owls being dumb, i was the best man at a wedding a couple of years ago and the rings were flown in by an owl. She landed on the grooms arm, burled her head for a bit then flew off, landed on top of the curtains and refused to come down without treats. This is the "adult gamer" version of those Saturday morning shows for children with two childlike adult hosts introducing segments and talking to puppets and their audience. The frequent crafts corner really helps that comparison.
