Kingdom Hearts 3 gameplay (and much more!): This week we got some hands on time with the EAGERLY awaited next instalment of Disney and Square Enix crossover, Kingdom Hearts 3. I haven't watched the video yet, but I think if anyone ignored KH this long this is the best time to get into the series and to catch up. If someone started playing KH1 right now and went on through the most important games and at least watched the cutscenes of the others they would probably finish before KH3 realeses. Also they would have all the lore fresh when they play KH3. I've been playing the series since 2010 and I hated every single time I played a new KH and had a hard time getting a reference to a game I played years before that.

I used to LOVE Donald Duck, I remember reading his weekly comics when I was a child. Then KH came out and I remember 11 yo me playing for hours and drawing piles of fanart of him. I'e always been a little baffled by people say KH is over-complicated. The main story's is pretty straight-forward. Bad stuff happened, go fix it with your magical key. It's the side details and the deeper lore that's is where it gets complicated and even then I think most of that had been overblown by two decades of fancannon and long-time fans seeming to have blurred the lines between the actual game and the meta narrative..

cloudsterx7 Mobile version is a very long-winded prequel. Everglow on YT edited both the PC and Mobile game to make sense. Also overlaps the story with the cgi movie.

Matt D The sad thing is all the DS games just became cutscenes and text. Only the remaster of Chain of Memories (for the PS2) became playable. I think if they are they wouldn't delay on it though. This series may appear childish on the outside yet it has a deep ( a little confusing to those from the outside or haven't played all the games) story, fun gameplay, and lovable characters for all to enjoy. It's especially confusing if you jumped all over the place in your first run-through of the series. KH1 was the fourth game that I played. 358/2 Days was my first one, which is like the absolute WORST to start on if you don't want to be super confused. I had no idea what was going on.

If I could join you for that Disney marathon, Ellen, I totally would. You have me totally hyped for the new one again and particularly happy that you enjoyed the series. Another reason for me and my friends to play, though, is that they got as many original voice actors as they could get their hands on! I happen to know that Pat Carrol herself came in to voice Ursula each and every time, though she had to do it close to home. Adding Pixar to the mix is even better and I only hope they got Tim Allen and Tom Hanks to voice the English version. Not to mention John Goodman and Billy Crystal.

I'm about to introduce my daughter to the KH games.I played 1/2 as a teenager with my little brother. It would be amazing if 3 gets finally published. Been waiting so long, almost won't believe it's here until it's in stores.

Oh and yeah, I actually remember how I got into the series. My Mom had a PS2 that she bought with her to Uni but after she'd finished a several years prior, she discovered Kingdom Hearts 1 while shopping used games at the local Cash Converters. The only reason she bought it was that she's a wicked Nightmare Before Christmas fan and the back of the box has a screenshot of Sora and Jack. Inevitably, because of our lack of internet coverage, she couldn't get very far at all. On school nights, I proceeded to pick up the mantle, attempting the game. I too failed a few times, and the game sat collecting dust for about 4 years, until I was mid secondary school. I decided that, since we'd got the internet, I'd use that newfangled Google thingy to research what to do, and boy, were my eyes opened to the series. After finishing 1, I had my friend use that fancy Amazon to buy me the 2nd game (I paid him back of course) and I remember being so confused at the start, but slowly putting the pieces together and finally finishing the game. And so, today, I own all the games in both their original mediums and their HD rereleases, I have a stuffed plushie Shadow heartless, I've cosplayed Organisation members and I have a fair few of the KH Funkos, including the Halloween Town Sora. So honestly, I think it's fairly safe to say that I owe Kingdom Hearts 1 my entire gaming life.

Crimson_Rogue 97 if you have ps4 you can get the 2.5 and 2.8 hd collections and have the whole series on 2 discs. Days and coded are only the cinematics though. Not sure if Re:com is playable or just cutscenes

Great video, and informative. I've got mixed feelings about the key blade being able to "transform" into yo-yos and the like. I loved the fact that the key blade was always a classic sword style weapon.

Don't fret about not playing 2.8. As long as you watch Back Cover and 0.2's cutscenes, you will be fine. (I mean you played the majority of it by playing DDD).

It really isn't that confusing to me. Even the time travel bits in 3Ds. I think if you kinda just play everything in order and read the ansem reports it starts to piece together quite well. 2.8 and the mobile game help a lot though and may require you to pay attention to minor details as they do have a big impact later on.

+Darrien Jones: The Ansem and Xehanort Reports help more than I think people would initially think, and I found that a lot of people's confusion (especially regarding how Xehanort is doing what he is doing) is due to them not reading them.

i have played kingdom hearts since 1 came out on the ps2. i love the series and am super excited for this third installment. i do feel the need to mention that you forgot about 2.8 which brought a couple of ds games to the console as well as told the story of the kingdom hearts mobile game in a cinematic movie in order to fill in the time frame long before kingdom hearts birth by sleep.

The first Kingdom Hearts is actually the first game i ever beat. These games are amazing and have been since they hit the shelves (just my opinion). The second is my favorite, mainly because i haven't gotten the chance to play the third and.. i like the Pridelands a lot.. like a LOT a lot. And Ellen, if you're reading this, i highly suggest you play the first two and also Birth By Sleep for the PsP. Also maayyyybe you guys could do a throwback episode and play the first (or second) one. Love you guys, keep up the great work! When you fight Yozora (secret boss), just try and focus on all the details behind the attacks, the visuals, the sounds and everything else. That specific fight has so many aspects of how big creating this game was, specially that final secret scene.

PhoenixLJM Since they have not released on a home console since the ps2, no they do not. However, they had re-release versions (final mix) of three games that contained extra content which was basically like the game added with dlc. I still think dlc will come to it but I am not sure if full worlds will. The series is not ending after 3, though.
