Poor Connor, i was a fan of his story, but the way he was treated by the rest of the game did not do him or Haytham Kenway justice in my opinion. Also the Washington bit of the story with the dlc got a little bit out of control. But this game did introduce everyone to the ship combat that would make Black Flag so good and invigorating to the series as a whole. Im with you Ellen and Tom, (love your work btw) But Tom did forget the worst game in the series was Unity, because it was broken and the online/co-op did not work properly, just saying.

As a Haudenosaunee person (the same as Connor) I really liked Connor and AC3 in general. I understand the problems with the gameplay, and I do think they leaned into the sterotypical stoic indigenous person a bit too much, but in terms of representation it was really well done. The themes of colonialism and it's negative impacts on indigenous people as well as dismissing the idea that our people were not civilized before settlers came was very well developed. Also with what you were saying about how Connor was jerked around by the Americans and the British is kind of reflective of how Indigenous people have been treated throughout history. The dev team also did really good work and research with our people, the fact that the game actually had Mohawk in it with Indigenous voice actors was great, and the encyclopedia stuff on our culture is really good. Also Connor is to my knowledge the only Haudenosaunee main character in a video game which is great. P.s. sorry for the essay

The story was so good imo, never understood the hate. It was the map and the gameplay that let the game down, there wasn't much fun with free running through forests and the buildings were only two three stories. There wasn't any battles like what was advertised in the trailer that got the game the most hyped which I think a lot of the fan base thought was a let down during a setting like the revolution.

@Bobby Papoutsis again, considering the fact bayek was well received, your argument about people wanting a character like Ezio is straight up wrong, Altair as a character was also pretty bland, unless you play revelations. all the grief in the world is not an excuse for a one dimensional character and you are certainly not gonna tell me, between 4 years of age and meeting achilles, he had no one to share his grief with, especially since he had friends and other tribe members. grief might make you sad and angry, but that can never be the only emotion your character has, this is exactly why home stead missions were the best part of connor's story...he lacks the depth a character should in the rest of the game
@untypebanalsuryoutube80765 жыл бұрын
@@souvikbose8583 bayek was well recieved because ppls liked origins, exploring egypt, the new gameplay and all this stuff, they inconciously associate a good game overall with a good protagonist but bayek was absolutely average in fact. But that's also the reason that makes ezio being so loved, many peoples simply can't understand how good ezio is but they enjoyed ac2 back then (same thing as origins, truely refreshing and awesome game for its time). The main difference between ezio and bayek is that i can write a book about why he is good and this only in ac2, then 1 for brotherhood and 2 for the older ezio from revelation, i can't really do that for bayek, a few good things about him that's sure but litterally so many bad things making just at the end an okay character, i enjoyed playing origins but i will never in 10 years say to my self "let's go back playing ac origins" because in 10 years games will be so much better graphically, be so much bigger and interesting to explore that origins would be such a downgrade and unfortunatly, its story and characters aren't good enough for making this game worth playing in 10 years. I won't go as far as saying that origins was a waste of time and money, in fact it wasn't, i have put 200 hours into it, eploring, free roaming etc but it can't be legendary with such an average story and character.

Connor is my favorite Assassin and easily has my favorite story in the series. He's trying so hard to be idealistic and good in a world and time period/historical conflict where it's so damn grey. No one is purely good or evil and it's constantly going against and challenging his beliefs, but he's so locked into them even when he's loosened from his naivete he still believes and fights because he knows there's something better ahead, even if he won't exactly get to see it happen. Connor gets let down by everyone, talked down by everyone, and in the end eventually shows that unlike the experienced men around him, giving in to the seemingly inevitable end isn't always the way to go, that there IS still some kind of justice in the world no matter how small. Connor doesn't give up in the face of those who tell him it's not worth his time, and that speaks even harder now than it probably did back in '12. Connor's hardheaded because he stands by his beliefs, and hates to see such blatant hypocrisy from the people who don't have the greater good as their interest. Assassin's Creed III (and really, the colonial saga from III to Rogue) was the strongest the narrative has been for the franchise. The Ezio Trilogy is fun, and I love Ezio, but Connor did it more me more and since until we had Bayek.

Connor’s my favorite in the whole series! He’s a much more subdued character than the other protagonists, and isn’t the most open with his feelings in front of others. But that doesn’t mean that his character is any less developed than the other characters(except ezio maybe, because he had three games to introduce himself). I feel like he would work much better with a book format because you can explore the character’s inner thoughts a bit more, stretched over a longer period of time. Also loved the game’s more... “middle-ground” approach of the American Revolution. It did shy away from some of the details, but it did show that the American Revolution isn’t some fully moral, fully glorious one, and how it in the end hurt many other people.
@kombuchas46845 жыл бұрын
I LOVED the ending to AC3. Connor sees the American people celebrating after winning against the British, throwing their hats in the air, hugging and dancing. Connor absorbs it all from afar and looks to his left where he sees three black men being auctioned off for slavery. He shakes his head, as in disappointed in himself and everything, and walks away. That is how the game ended. No big speeches, no big closing, just a quiet moment that wraps up the whole thematic purpose of the game so beautifully. Connor fought so hard for freedom and in a sense he "won." But he knew at the end it wasn't enough. He won at the cost of so much. The people he fought so hard for not only forced his village out but is also enslaving black men and women for manual labor. I just love Connor and his character and his writing so much. If you ever want to chat about AC3 let me know because it is one of my favorite games.

Ratonhnhaké:ton is my favourite AC protgonist tbh, always has been. ezio always struck me as kind of a smarmy jerk and edward is fun, but he's just so obsessed with treasure that by the end of the game i was genuinely getting sick of him. Ratonhnhaké:ton has a clear goal (destroy the templars and defend his tribe and people) and starts out flawed and doesn't end up perfect. he's quiet, serious, and reserved in ways that make much more sense when you remember that he's having to talk in his second language, which is why his dialogue seems stilted sometimes. Ratonhnhaké:ton is also brash and aggressive and doesn't always think things through - but unlike Edward he's still a teenager, and unlike Ezio he's a teenager for pretty much most of the game, so his behaviour makes way more sense, compared to Edward - again, fully-grown man with a wife who ran away from home to be a pirate - and Ezio - a young man who went through some similar troubles, but had an uncle and various other family members and friends to help him along. Meanwhile, Ratonhnhaké:ton has a dead mother - an event that obviously deeply troubled him and traumatised him - an abrasive old man for a mentor, a father for an arch nemesis who (SPOILERS) he ended up having to kill, and a best friend and tribe (SPOILERS) who he also had to kill and who moved on to a completely different region to get away from the encroaching western world. His youthful idealism and belief of moral black-and-white is one of the few things that stays with him throughout the whole game, and while assassin's creed 3 presents the templars in a more balanced light, Ratonhnhaké:ton is never punished for his ethos, just his methods, naivety, and impatience, which he does eventually learn to curb. He's not a perfect protagonist, and that's exactly why i like him so much. Don't you dare talk to my son ever again.

I found AC3 to be rather disappointing, and I preordered the game with the full set of encyclopedia and graphic novel. It started off well with Haytham's story, but most of the game missions were bland compared to its predecessors. It's the same with Liberation actually. On paper both AC3 and Liberation were very much along the same lines as AC2 and Revelations, but the actual missions were much more boring and repetitive, with less of the great free running missions from Brotherhood, for example. I don't actually hate Connor's character, but he wasn't anywhere near as interesting as his father was. Altair was a pretty brusque character as well, but at least they took the time to actually flesh him out.

Once we get to ‘Connor’ - to me that he was not Ezio - was a right direction to me. I was not expecting a charismatic individual nor an overly cheerful person. I did not want someone that would be more of the same. Frankly the setting was a welcome departure from the cities of Italy. I never treated homestead as optional so I was very satisfied and thrilled by the whole homestead. Yes it’s eventually drawn to a somber close with the homestead yet it’s something that Achilles commends ‘Connor’ for in his farewell letter. The source of why Achilles decides to call him by that name is honorable. Once more homestead missions remain my favorite part of the game. The historical parts are ones I readily recognize having grown up most of the landmarks from New York still being around today. I learnt about the people and places in history so again to each their own particular interests. I try to treat each playable character as someone to appreciate for whatever and whoever they are bc having them be too alike would be too predictable. Ezio witnessed the very public execution of his father and brothers. Ezio was a teenager when the execution happen and had an available support system who later turn out to be part of the Brotherhood. ‘Connor’ was just a young boy with only his mother and to an extent their tribe. Also his first encounter with Templars comes on the same day that he’s unable to save his mother from a fiery death. So yes perhaps I’m biased about Connor and about the setting for his arc. My point is I try to not judge each game in the series against the others and not overly compare the protagonists against each other. I just saw try to enjoy whatever or whoever comes with each game.
@Agamemnon25 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree that making the homestead missions a part of Connor's main plot arc would have helped. All these people coming together to form a small community would have mirrored the America-becoming-a-nation thread running through the major historical events you witness. And that could have been the difference between Connor and Ezio: one built a secret order to steer the fate of the world, the other a small protected community for people with nowhere else to go.

He fights like one with honor and a willingness to die for a better future even if he doesn’t get to see it. Truly an incredible character.

There was really no reason to dislike Connor, just people make and make more excuses to. "He's better than him, He does this better." Ubisoft literally screwed their series with making three games for Ezio, and now the fans won't shut up about it even though they complained about Ezio's story being a little more boring now, the fans are getting more unsatisfied from each newer AC game because the character is not charming, the AC community is just ridiculous because they have so much Whining kids because their oh so precious character is gone because they literally wanted Ezio's story to end. Just like Desmond. There's a huge hole in the community where they whine and complain, like shit: stop complaining when it's over.

I liked AC3, and Connor. For about 3 or 4 years in a row I played through the main game about a week before the 4th of July and it was just perfect to get in the mood for the holiday. Where as Ezios story was more rounded, Connor's is like an orchestra swelling up like the main theme. Starts out a bit slow but picks up as more and more pieces are together. By the end you're right along side Connor as he finally sees Charles Lee's end. Also, in regards to his antisocialness I think part of it had to do with his personality and Achilles' as well. Achilles was used to being alone, and from what you get to see from Rogue even when he was younger he was more the kind of mentor to send people out on missions in different places all around.

I actually really like Connor/Ratonhnhaké:ton as a character and I honestly find the story of ACIII, especially from his viewpoint, to be pretty hard-hitting. The game itself unfortunately I found very frustrating and there's a lot of stuff I ended up not doing or completing (like the trade caravans, because my first caravan was attacked, I didn't get to it in time to save it, and I never figured out how to make a new one). I'm actually very aware that there's story and development I missed out on because I couldn't get through parts of the game, and it's kinda disappointing to me. It still kind of upsets me that people say Connor is boring and emotionless, though, since I did do a majority of the Homestead missions, and he's very sweet and kind, he makes jokes, he gets angry, he gets sad... I mean, of course he's no Ezio, but we had 3 games of Ezio, which is three times as long to develop a character people'll like (because I'm gonna be honest, I do not really care for AC2 Ezio). Honestly, though, the end of Connor's story still hits me very hard, especially as an American. He was fighting for the freedom of a country that was honestly ultimately ungrateful, and in the end it was only freedom for some. And the fact that it's still like that today is pretty upsetting. Playing as Connor helped encourage me to research more about Native Americans (specifically the Kanien'kehá:ka, though I eventually branched out to researching local tribes and the history of the region I live in) and the history of my country.
@crimsonking71795 жыл бұрын
That what people don't get about Connor's whole story was he trying to protect everything he love and do the right thing. Ultimately, his betrayed by his ally's, he couldn't save his village, the freedom he did fight for was only for a specific group of people and he lossed his mentor/ father figure, father, mother, and best friend. On top of all that, he achieved getting rid of the templars, but in the end felt like he achieved nothing or maked a difference in world. It unfair to compare him to Ezio because he had three games, that plenty of time to make to cemented in his character. Connor wasn't switching sides because ultimately he was on the side of life. It seems that way at first but Connor's story wasn't black and white like Ezio's. The people he though he call ally's who spoke about freedom but didn't provide the same to other people and even Connor's Dad Haytham helped people, but ultimately enslaved people. So him working with both side is him trying make sense of it all. Also literally every Assassin creed game has opinions of you not taking a stealth choice. So him being a big part of the of the major battles made sense. Now I do agree that environment could been better but it was a stepping stone for later games. Colonial American is kinda hard to fantasize without it being to carried away and that simply because it was largely recorded in that period of history. I also do agree that homestead missions I feel should have been require instead of optional. To be honest I felt that Connor should have three games round his character, because by the end game I was interested to see more of Connor and maybe they should have split the whole Revolutionary War into three part.
@captainsavvy075 жыл бұрын
Kinda sad there was a lot of "isn't Ezio great? Why isn't Connor more like Ezio?" Connor is one of my favourites. While he doesn't have the charisma of Ezio, he gets some absolutely brilliant one-liner zingers and actually has a pretty great dry sense of humour! People also forget that Ezio doesn't really find his stride until Brotherhood. He also had 3 games to fill out his character. Connor got a single game, one which he had to share part of it with Haytham, a character that had a similar charisma and charm to Ezio. 100% with you on the flatness of the world though. AC is at its best when the geography is grand and interesting to climb all over; colonial America just didn't have very interesting architecture. AC4 got around that by having the really good sailing and the only thing AC3 had was the ability to climb through trees.
@IIXXXXII5 жыл бұрын
If they didn't have such a long ass prologue for unecessary templar reasons they could've gotten to the point of Connor and development, one game isn't enough to expand one character, because is AC2 just ended with no sequels then Ezio would've been seen as an Asshole.
@Okkotsu862754 жыл бұрын
I love Connor so much.This video kind of hurt my feelings lol. Here is a comment I found that sums up my opinion on Connor: I don't get it, Connor was a serious and straight forward individual who displayed great discipline and conviction. He had a hard life and did what he thought was right for the good of his people and the ideal of freedom. Moreover, he was already a trained fighter before joining the creed so he knew the concept of discipline from a very young age. His culture also demands it of him so he grew up to be strong and focused not easily clouded by emotion. Is it because you didn't see him cry or get drunk over a heated argument that made him so "bland" ? One has to really be into story telling in order to read the emotion of the character in order to feel their inner plight and understand their perspective. Im not saying you have to agree with it but im also saying you shouldn't be so quick to write Connor off as one dimensional. I felt his grief when he killed his father and lost Achilles. I saw his happiness and kindness through the homestead missions as he helped the community grow into something great. I felt his pain when he lost his people and his best friend. We saw his passion as he fought to end Charles Lee and consequently the colonial Templar's. However, what stood out to me the most was his perseverance and tenacity as well his indomitable warrior spirit, which were the very things that set him apart from many of the other assassins.
@frayayank4974 жыл бұрын
I feel his character although dull at times was still very true to the setting and reality he lived in. He was a bastard and his father neglected and tried to kill him, then they teamed up and then he got crossed and then he finds out George Washington got his mom killed, his tribe is being killed off, he’s being screwed over by America, Britain, all of his friends except the assassins. I feel his mood and character is justified given the unfortunate circumstances, AC 3 is by far the most Gritty AC game and so I think his character is justified. Yes, Ezio has tragedy too but still, Ezio always has the backing of his mom, sister and inner circle, connor, even on the homestead was still always a loner. The times he is happy is on the naval missions and homestead missions, basically anytime he’s not off on his own saving America. When he’s surrounded by friends, he’s a more lively fun character. He tells jokes on the Sea and laughs, shoots the breeze, he’s dull and angry during the main story because the main story ain’t cheery.

Spoilers! I liked Conner OK, but I perfectly see why some people don’t. The weakest AC protagonist for me is Arno Dorian. he has no real reason to join the Assassin’s, other than his birth father was in it, but his adoptive father was a Templar so he has reason to join either. Yet he joins the Assassin’s because, one helped him break out of jail. who was also in jail so why did Arno never consider he was just lying about the Assassin’s and his father just so he had a fall guy for the escape attempt? It doesn’t help that the chapter of the brotherhood depicted in Unity kinda just acted like dicks, and you could even argue they’re the reason the revolution was so violent and why so many corrupt governments kept rising from it. Every time the rest of the order was on screen I yelled, “The revolutions ideals run so much in line with that of the Assassin’s why aren’t you helping it!” Arno had the same sentiment yet he joins them and stays with them. Why? He came off to me as someone who didn’t know why he was doing anything, and was just meandering about the whole time crying about his creepy semi incestous relationship with his Templer adopted sister. Conner received a vision and acted on it. He didn’t spend the whole game crying about his birth father being a Templar. (Mainly because he wasn’t even born for half the game, but still) he knew why he was doing what he did and didn’t just meander about. Conner’s not the best AC protagonist in my opinion. That’s a tie between Edward and Ezio. Yet I would never call him the worst.
@Durandahll5 жыл бұрын
Aaron Kitzmann I would disagree with you on Arno being the weakest AC protagonist, the weakest in my opinion is Edward(even though he’s one of my favorites) he spends the majority of the game doing whatever the hell he pleases and only after every single one of his friends and family either died betrayed him or left him realize that there is more to life than his own person ambitions, Arno however literally had everyone he ever loved killed in front of him. His father, his adopted father, his father figure mentor and the love of his life. Arno was torn between two worlds the assassins because it’s in his blood and his legacy and the Templar’s because of his love and loyalty to Elise. Arno in my mind was the most human and relatable character of any AC game.

Interesting points of view I personally liked all of the protags, they all had their own worlds to explore Arno joined the assassins because of the guilt and failures of his 'past self' (because once he joins the brotherhood, they really make it a point to make it seem like some spiritual journey to leave behind the old Arno and become just an assassin), and I was fine with that, I enjoyed it There's enough that's been said about Connor, but my own opinions of him, in short? He was cool, I dunno lol And I loved how Edward's story was done as well-- instead of him seeking revenge like Ezio, or seeking justice like Connor, or acting to redeem himself like Arno, he was basically Spider-Man tbh He has the gifts of the assassins and spends most of the story misusing them until (as Mr.Black said) everyone he cares for is ripperoni; his Uncle Ben's are dead and he suddenly feels the weight of his actions and wants to assume his responsibilities-- that's his story and I thought it was fine I just find that there's alot more to appreciate in these characters, their games and their stories than to dislike I dunno, maybe I'm weird... I understand the points brought up against them, but still, I don't have a negative view of them: I just enjoy em

@cielo9875 жыл бұрын
This is really long so if no one reads its fine He didnt know what side he was on? Are you serious, his whole mission was to get revenge on the men responsible for what happened to him. He met an old Assassin who trained him and showed him who he was after. He became an assassin and was fighting Templars, his whole focus was killing them by any means possible even if it meant aiding them and it was only his father that he worked with(Because character development and stuff that he had that many over look because he isnt Ezio and every character has to have a sense of humor). Everything he did, everything was to help him get closer to the guys he wanted to kill even if he had to do an odd job, it helped him get closer to his goal, if it didnt help, he would flat out avoid it, like with the Paul Revere thing you showed, he refused at first then agreed to do it because it could bring him closer to his target. He built up his own brotherhood as well, he was responsible for their entire homestead/plantation flourishing. He didnt have any of this stuff handed to him like Ezio, he had to work from the ground up. He didnt have a rich uncle who already had a small army to help him. The gameplay was not as bad as you guys say. Nearly every setting in every Assassin Creeds game was accurate mostly. Unlike most of Europe during the time these games take place the US was just being built and the Ship combat is the main reason why Assassin's Creed 4's game play kept people entertained because the islands were just as bare, there were no great spires and stuff in most of the environments. And the combat in 3 was much better than 4 and an improvement on the ones that came before. You could chain together kills with different weapons way more smoothly, you can choose to have one weapon.

That's my top reason for favoring this game. It's the only game I've ever pre-ordered. Because 1) it's a character you can initially connect to from his start (culturally), and 2) we Indigenous have how many representations in gaming....... what, 2....... Turok? But honestly, it's shameful how, even with "cultural advisors", Ratonhnhake'ton was still played as that old Hollywood type-cast..... the Stoic Indian...... the Noble Savage. I'm like.... Are you fuckin playing, Montreal?! Dude would've had a smartass sense of humor to the max. And he definitely would've been flashy and a showoff. The one time they tried to show that was near the end, by stupidly mixing weakass warpaint while grieving. They missed a huge opportunity to show how much they research cultures.

AC3 is still one of my favorite AC games. Absolutely loved the setting and being able to explore 18th century New England. But there's nothing wrong with Connor...he's just massively different from Ezio whom everyone had 3 games to fall in love with. That aside, from a strictly racial standpoint, Connor is also the main protagonist that the smallest demographic of players can directly identify with and I think much of his character gets lost in that translation...both figuratively and literally given English is Connor's second language. This is something I actually felt added to the charm of his character. But, I think it would be extremely interesting to track down a player of Mohawk descent and get their take on Connor.
@Nolascana5 жыл бұрын
Aye, also his deadpan delivery and near monotone is likely due to him having to translate everything on the fly... with SO MANY DIFFERENT ACCENTS flying around. Poor bastard was trying to figure out how to save his people from two bad groups of people and had to keep cleaning up peoples messes... And lost the credit too (following the canon excuse that templars control the recording of mass public history). He never wins, even when he has a family hes so full of resentment from a life of being shat on... If i remember right his wife leaves him or he ends up walking away. Deffo the homestead missions for the win, the side stuff is how I love AC3 as my fave. If Ezios games were on the ac3 engine or ps4 engines... my opinion miiiiight shift a lil

Well, the blandness in set should've generally required much more richness in worldbuilding & storytelling. That was their primary mistake in trying to do a Native American story. I still think they should have: 1) Included some of the remaining Abenaki Nations, (Schaghticoke, Kennebec, Penobscot, Maliseet) who sided with the Patriots whereas most of the Iroquois sided with the British, on top of the Abenakis/ Mohicans & Iroquois having been longtime enemies of one another with deep animosities. 2) Actually acknowledged that the Iroquois sided with the British. 3) Used the Washington's Culper Ring in a much more thought out way. Seriously, these were the people that Washington depended on for his intelligence & they used a character who served as the only mention of it to try to assassinate Washington. He had no reaction to that, whatsoever, nor did it seem to trigger his understanding of the Assassin/ Templar influences happening behind his back. 4) Worked in some missions outside of the general area that you were trapped in which were crucial to the war, like New Jersey or Ohio, & used that to meet more diverse Native peoples. 5) Had more actual Assassins, even one-offs. Those Assassin recruit missions don't count, because most people never figured out how to activate them & they never really played a real part in the story anyway, except for that one French guy. 6) Not that I expect that this was ever a possibility at the time, but included more Iroquoian cultural elements aside from use of the language & the one village. Like, try to use the religion & mythology to explain Connor's beliefs & motivations better, or something.

AC 3 will always be my favorite. Connor grew a lot as a person, amd as every assassin, he has made mistakes, and he learns from them. His story is one of those that really touched me, as did Black Flag, and Shay's. I have Unity and Syndicate but I have not yet finished Unity or started Syndicate. But Connor's is still my favorite. He's an interesting character. You get to see Connor's view, and Haythem's. Interacting with the homestead is also very intriguing. Connor's story isn't meant to show highs and happiness, it shows the reality of his life, and what himself and his people go through, and why he fights for freedom. Though he might be naive, he still grows to learn that there will never truly be complete peace. War will always exist, and life can and will deal you with shitty cards, no matter who you are, or what you fight for. It shows much reality and the truth of how people are designed to live in this world, though not preferable, it is truth.

As a native american (well.. Canadian, but ya know..) myself, I finally felt truly represented in this game. Every elder I've met was quietly stoic, but you always feel a strength and wisdom to them that I felt was really well portrayed by Connor and his villages people, the Mohawk. I know coming after one of the most beloved characters in gaming is a difficult thing to do, and if he had come maybe a game or so after he'd have more merit as a character. He's one of my favourites, not only because of representation but because he genuinely felt like he was confused, all throughout the game. He didn't know which side was correct, and you could see that he was contemplating the templar's ideals, while muddied they still made sense to him. You can see that in how he deals with his father, you can see the anger and hate he feels for Haytham but this is the first time he's met the man and you could see from the start that he at least wants to know and understand him. That in itself made Haytham's death meaningful. I think if they had fleshed out the colonial brotherhood, before Connor, he'd have definitely been received better. I wanted to see the AC3 remaster go in the direction of a remake and make it more mechanically like Origins, but I suppose what we got was ok. *cough* The textures were still shit for a remaster standard. *cough*

I'm a colossal assassin's creed 1 fanboy, and honestly I got the vibe they were trying to make him Altair #2, but missed the point pretty heavily. Altair wasn't stoic, but instead a massive jerk; AC1 is a redemption story where he, the most skilled assassin, had to gain insight and enlightenment, and eventually reached the point where he was able to see through the multiple layers of deceit that had been layered over his life. Over the course of the game, he learns humility, compassion, and even a sense of honour/dignity - rather than having contempt for his victims, he begins offering them soothing words and listening to their confessions. Near the end, he even shows mercy. So... long story short: Making the main character of AC3 just a stoic/grumpy type almost certainly wasn't a good idea.

Conner ranks in the middle of the AC protagonists for me. I prefer him to Altair, and much much more than the unlikeable butthorn, Arno. And yeah, he was quite the sourpuss through the game (though I'd classify him as angry, rather than sad) but I think he worked through his angst by the end, and if he had gotten a sequel he probably would have become much more enjoyable. I would agree that the side missions were the best part, particularly the homestead missions. However, they provided the most conflicting part to Conner's characterization. He spends the main storyline basically hating everybody, but then turns around and asks all these strangers to help him build a loving community. Hard to believe that one... Also hard to believe I liked AC4 so much, after hating the ship missions in AC3. I only did the mandatory ones, cursing my way through them like a good sailor boy. But when this remaster is released I'll gladly give them another shot!

Surprising to see the video did not even mention his real name, Ratonhnhaké:ton. Anyway, his story is quite sad and tragic. He lost his mother and most of his tribe during his childhood, had a misguided revenge on Charles Lee and his friends, being used like a tool by people that he once trusted like George Washington, and eventually had to kill his own father with whom he was hoping to reconcile despite the Assassin vs Templar differences and his constant disagreement with his Mentor, Achilles. I was a bit disappointed to see Ubisoft decided to cut his final monologue from the game. It was about his mother, his father, and how he sees the struggle of the Assassins for many years to come. I think it was one of the most touching monologues in AC series, and thankfully, it's still available for us to find in KZbin.
