It's because females are worse both on average and at the highest level at being good at games when compared to males. Also it's an attack on the opponent's manhood, so it's equivalent to calling someone a noob AND gay at the same time. Plus they can flaunt the fact they have this rare trophy "gamer girl" on their side and brag about their superior social skills to some loser on the internet or something.
