Having being born in India and immigrated to Canada in my teenage years, I went to High School and did ask a student for rubber (eraser). He sat me down and helped me understand that rubber stood for condoms. So, when the rubber dialogue came up in this movie, it gave me chills. LOL

Having been to India five times, staying with Indian friends in many parts and working in a School for the Deaf….also a big Bollywood fan…when I first saw this movie I was amazed that an American made movie about India that actually got it right! Funny and decent…I can watch this movie over and over.

A very balanced movie. Did not undermine any culture, be it American or Indian. Genuinely showed the good and the not so good about both cultures. Also they took a very serious subject and portrayed it in a very calm way.😄

I think this movie was stereotyping Indian culture in some ways: Indians have long hard-to-pronounce names, Indians are only people who just subjugate Americans to their culture with Indian dances, music, and rituals, showing poor places of India, and that Indians don't use perspective-taking. I don't really care about the film that much. 😔

I really like this movie. Reminds me of my memorable travels to different parts of the world. Yes, I experienced cultural shocks, jet-lags, but all worth it! It is amazing how much our bodies can adapt. I hope that there will be Part 2 where he will be able to marry her.

I chose to watch this movie tonight specifically because it is charming, lovely, happy. I've seen it before. It will leave you with a sense of well being. Not that there are not problems in the world. But perhaps a different way of thinking in how to overcome them.

I watched this movie at least 20 times. But this is the first time after working a job as a teaching assistant. I have gotten a new perspective of how stressed out he really was. When a woman is crying, the other is hitting on female callers, the other is wandering off. Yeah, I have to deal with that every day now. It's hard work. Glad to have gained a new perspective on this favorite movie.

I’m insane for Indo-Pakistani culture. When anyone says they’re “bored,” I tell them look into Indian literature (OMG), Gujarati music, Carnatic singing. The food, movies, different areas (If you’ve had your fill of Lucknow, there’s always Ludhaina! I know a boy from the Lawyer caste!) Recently blown away by Pakistani Quwwali music, only to have my heart stolen by Pashtun songs, with their tin drum. Boredom not possible.

The 2000s and 2010s were a tough time in America. 9/11 just happened and China was admitted to the WTO which fueled globalization. Most the capital that would normally go into the US was going to China. Also, the US was in two wars. The capital that came in was mostly going to real estate which along with bad government policy, it fueled a bubble that popped which made things very rough for the 2010s. The wars and the bail outs caused the US dollar to devalue massively. Now the Covid pandemic and the war in Ukraine are somewhat reversing globalization. I hope this global inflation gets better.

Somehow, this movie just made me sad. Everyone's jobs get outsourced so Big Corporate can exploit workers wherever they can be most exploited, a good number will never find a living wage job again . . .but it's all good, right? So long as we focus on unrequited love v impossible dreams like getting paid for your production value. Meh 😕

@ Natalie Williams. It's called Capitalism. Uncontrolled, all the wealth (= power) ends up in the control of the Few ,who then control the rest of us. Basic economics teaches that Competition between many companies is great for consumers. but the way to make the most money for the least outlay is to have a monopoly or artificially create one (Branding Advertising) then Outsource production and staffing to the cheapest possible area use the cheapest components that will do the job but can't be repaired if it stops working and price it at " whatever the market will bear" ie. luxury prices. A nice shiny Apple , anyone?

What I like too - is the working to make the customer service reps feel comfortable. Having worked call center work for many years, and seen outsourcing happen. Things like selecting a name 'Brian Lincoln' when the accent is very clearly not matching. I would rather speak with Ashokh. They are working to make a living too, and unfortunately it has proven true that in some countries labor is 'cheaper' than for example America. It's an exceptionally frustrating thing to see both sides of it. Bottom line matters to some companies more than the product or customer base. The movie points out some very real issues. The foreign manufactored product versus 100% American made and sold - there was a distinct price difference. Also it speaks to something else - ageism. Puru looking at the fact he was not as young and more 'management' material versus just call center peon. It's not as easy to get a job, and one that was paying as good as the company was. Even though from an American standpoint the pay was almost laughable. Respect the culture of the employees, have fun and play! I dare say that I would LOVE to see Americans celebrate much as they show in India during Holi. Plus, having worked for a company that I didn't much care for in the past - it made me think about how I was miserable yet hanging in there because of benefits, et cetera. Embrace life - sit with a family and share a meal, do a job with joy in my heart. Have fun!

Watched this movie back in 2008 or 2009. I never knew that I will become a call centre employee later on in life. When I saw the call centre life myself, I would often recall this movie as I noticed the similarities shown in this movie wth reality. But there were many exaggerations too, like that cow standing in the office building, or the half built office being operationalized. Today I watched this movie again and relived those memories. Old times.
