As a completely blind individual, traveling like this with my guide dog through crowded airports without eyesight can be extremely stressful and challenging. The airport always provides assistance for me to get to and from my gates, find restrooms, food etc., but not everyone is as helpful as James! James did an exceptional job clearing the crowd of people in front of me and guide dog Arabella. He provided me great audible cues and feedback for me and Arabella to follow, and was just a joyful personality to help make the chaotic situation less stressful. When you have no eyesight whatsoever, and you are trying to travel through a chaotic environment, all of the noise that surrounds you can be overwhelming. During this video I was trying to pay attention to James voice, handling my guide dog and keeping her on track, all the while videoing with my iPhone in landscape mode in my right hand trying to remain steady and aiming the camera lens in the direction of things I hear. I know I didn’t sound stressed in this video, but trust me, adventures like this can be exhausting. I have learned to take a lot of deep breath’s and stay present in the moment. I’m never afraid of traveling blindly alone, but it does require a lot of patience, strength, a positive attitude, and a lot of faith! I find my joyful attitude is also key to having a positive and rewarding experience! Thank you James, you definitely made this leg of my trip a joyful one! Other airport employees could learn a lesson from your awesome guiding skills! 💛

@@JoyRoss You were all awesome, and shame on the folks wizzing by you all, one snatched up a pet while running past you on the narrow ramp, another cut Arabella off in the main hallway after the bathroom, These folks are so rude and self-absorbed, both were men, I will pray for them as they think it is no big deal, and James has a huge bright orange visit so it is not like you can miss you guys, Maybe you should bring your big white cane and stick it out there to keep folks at bay, sorry to say but really they have nerve. Maybe put a bright orange tag on your bag so Arabella knows who ever carries it she should follow and make sure that tag has a carabiner so you can easily remove it and hand it to other folks who may lead you, just a thought, I am sure you can come up with better stuff. The airport helpers were very good, especially when each one was on either side of Arabella to help block the busy folks and make you more visible. Do you have a video to go over and explain all of the equipment Arabella has on? It looks like she has a head harness, martingale collar, and body harness, as a lot of us do not know about it or why it is being used. Also your experience with your other dog how one item maybe helping one dog better than another? I know you mention it briefly but a dedicated video could educate a little better and demonstrate, it is fascinating and such a blessing for those that need them. I am all for tools for training(safe ones of course), but a lot of folks just think a guide or service dog just gets trained so fast and that is so not the case especially in our very busy and fast-paced world. I know for my SD we train, do well, and then have to back off as there will be something new we need to work with or some old habit that may need fixing. Like Arabella my pup wants to see and smell everything, but she is also assessing the area so we can pass as humans are doing weird things. It is a difficult thing to train your dog to take in information but not be too doggy about it, something I pray on daily especially with people always interrupting the work. Shouts of thanks to the great employees all along the way that helped. I love your videos they teach so much, lots of prayers to you and all the fam.

@@WoopWoopItsKate I was just saying that is likely what is happening. An airport is a busy, bustling place. I'm well aware that it isn't an excuse as I use two prosthetic legs to get around and even when I'm in a wheelchair, people just don't see it. They'll step directly in front of people without a thought because they're engrossed in their phones or conversation. People aren't aware of their surroundings more often than not. Most aren't trying to be purposefully rude about it. They just are trying to multitask in a busy airport and forget there are others out there. You are correct in that it isn't an excuse, but more of an observation. Sadly, until the world gets out of this "me, me, me" mind frame, I don't think we'll see a change of behavior.

Whenever I've gone on a plane with mother (who has to use a wheelchair instead of a scooter in an airport and I can't carry bags AND push her) at both ends the assistance is great. When they actually arrive and do their job, that is. We've arrived at several airports having arranged assistance only to find no-one waiting at the other end and having to wait for them. Given I have Hearing and learning disabilities I find them great though I do worry they think I'm faking on the learning disabilities since when given instructions I can follow (go to desk, check in, give bag and have electronics ready for security is as far as I can handle, GETTING to security is a different thing to me) I don't seem to have anything wrong, but I do have my nan's sense of direction so no use leaving me in the middle of somewhere I don't know. I would honestly rather not get lost and panicked as that would only make things worse for everybody. It is better for me to have a guide. I find it annoying to be talked to like a child but it works as I can understand them and be obedient in a timely manner. Not to mention obviously with the hearing problem I can't hear tannoys, it's all just muffled echoey chaos to me.

ALWAYS ask before petting a dog, why do people not know this simple rule? Dogs you dont know can be aggressive, fearful or uncomfortable around stranger and its a danger to you and the dog when they feel like they have to snap at you. Working dogs also are not safe to pet, you put the owner in danger.

My dog snapped at the kid and her mother started throwing a fit. Parents need to teach their kids to ask before they touch

Idk why people insist upon it. She cleared the way, at times she was right next to you trying to keep people from bumping into you and Arabella etc. They both were great, honestly! All that help was, without a doubt, needed because the place was packed with people and a lot of them were on their phones while walking or were looking for things, so they weren't focused on trying to not bump into you. I've been to a training where we learn to teach the visually impaired how to use a cellphone (using the talkback assistive mode). Our trainors were all completely blind. They have told us that phrases like "have you seen my water bottle?" Or "did you watch the show last night?" Isn't really offensive for them. They have already accepted the fact that they cannot see, and a little misuse of sight words doesn't affect them even a bit. They also said that besides, asking questions with sight words is better than "have you felt my water bottle?" Or "did you listen to the show last night?". They use questions like those when talking to each other. It's perfectly normal for them to hear sighted words/phrases/questions. Hope this becomes informative for those who doesn't know yet! This just got recommended. .. but i'm kinda put off by the amount of people who nearly walked into you.. I mean james is walking with a vest and its pretty obvious with bella that somethin is up. I find it rather rude, I mean when someone walks into you with that speed they will knock you over. James did great, go james. He should be the standard go to guy, to guide people.

It’s because they’re on their phones dawdling around. Maybe they should put their phones away.

This was a great video! There was a person who petted Arabella in the beginning of the video and I got scared that it might affect her working but she was amazing!

i like how the female worker stomped over to the wall at star backs so she had an idea of where to go

As a previous service dog trainer it frustrates me to see people pet the dogs whilst they are working, tho Arabela is very good at ignoring them good for her !!

You are amazing. That crowded airport would have given me a panic attack if I couldn’t see. I wish you could hire someone you trust to travel with you. I really admire you and your courage! I’m so glad you don’t let anything stop you from living your life!

James wanted to say MOVE so bad! 😂 He did really well, though. My mom is visually impaired and I appreciate all the James' out there that have helped her.

When I was younger I had unexplained pain that made it hard to walk and it happened at an airport and they put me in a wheelchair and a super helpful employee wheeled me to the bathroom to get food and go to my gate, James being so kind reminded me of how nice some people can be when you really need help

My partner requires special assistance and depending on who you get can make or break a holiday or trip. It can really be a stressful time for her, James did an amazing job and treated you like a human, top man.
