That's the thing though. Last year, according to the Washington Post, Baldwin was being payed $1400 an episode to appear as Trump (undoubtedly less than his travel and hotel expenses). SNL has a notorious low budget for cast and guests (with most guests being paid by their film's marketing budget, not SNL itself). So, the longer Baldwin appears on SNL, the more money he loses by not staying in LA and making movies. SNL can't even afford his old sitcom salary ($15 million a year), although they surely could afford to give him a few more thousand per episode. So two thing happened because of Donald Trump's inauguration (vis a vis SNL): Baldwin is losing out on potentially millions of dollars in movie work (even if not a leading man anymore, he still makes a good chunk out of cameos and animated appearances), and/or SNL is spending exorbitantly to afford to keep Baldwin's Trump on the air. Possibly to diminishing returns if the Trump character is overexposed.
