Ford Anglia, for me the best looking hot rod of all time, used to watch them at Hednesford in the early 70's, great to watch, thanks for the vid.

Wow, this took me back! Respect for Barry Lee, but as I was living in Sutton, Surrey in those days we always rooted for local lad George Polley in his 306 Anglebox. At one stage we had three top drivers from Sutton in matching BP/Custom Car livery and the fantastic support from the crowd as they entered Wimbledon stadium was brilliant. George Polley, Graham North and Phil Powell, what a team!

When I was a child I used to watch hot rods on 'World of sport' in the 80's. Always used to root for George Polley. If I remember correctly, at that time he was driving a Toyota Starlet.

Cracking bit of racing, bordering nail-biting ! Polley and the Anglia seem much quicker on the black stuff and pull away, but Lee and the Escort pull a bit back on the loose.

I guess Americans define hot rods differently from Brits. I don't see a hot rod in here. But then if you show me a platter of cookies I wouldn't see a biscuit, either. But then again, whatever those cookie things are, they're always delicious. Come to think of it, these hot rod things are amazing!
@UberLummox5 жыл бұрын
I know, right? "Hot rods'??? You gould say (back then at least) the British definition of a hot rod is as "off" as the older American definition of a sports car. : ) I'm not knocking these, but would like to understand why they called'em hot rods exactly.

As a US'er could someone educate me on why these are reffered to as hot rods specifically? Whatever the meaning I doubt it would translate to us, but that's ok, these little rockets are killa!
