I have ovarian cancer, it is stage 4 and incurable . My only symptom was the bloating tummy.I put it down to weight gain at first and went on a diet, i lost 20lbs, but my tummy was still as bloated , i went to the doctors and she sent me for a scan. And this is when i found out i had cancer. Surgery is not an option for me as it has spread far and wide, i am having chemo to prolong my life only, not for a cure. I still have no other symptoms, and have had my tummy drained of fluid twice now with a total of 16 litres of fluid removed. So if you have a bloated tummy, do not delay , go have it checked out.

Thank you for your kind words. I have had my chemo. The cancer has not spread or grown since i started my treatment, but it did not shrink either. Right now i am "stable" I am being monitored by my doctor and it's just a wait and see really. The cancer will become active again, could be next month, could be next year. Meanwhile i am getting on with things as normal as possible, and enjoying life! I am still symptom free and i am told i look "well" which is kind of odd as i know i am very sick, Ovarian cancer is the invisible killer so please if you are worried at all, it is best to be wrong than to find out to late like i did .

Don't be scared just because of that! I also have an irregular menstrual cycle. I also have period pain that is disabling and I am bed ridden for 3-5 days out of each month. I recently had to quit my full time job. It is very heart breaking and stressful for my husband. I started my cycle at the age off 11. I am 24 now. I go to the GYN October 2nd to schedule a laparoscopic surgery. I'm not worried, I am just eager to get "fixed."

I want them to be a screening program, so women can be screened by ultrasound alongside their yearly pap & mammogram. Ultrasound is a simple, cheap, radiation free way of picking up the pointers of ovarian cancer. If women in risk age groups, those with a strong family history (mothers & sisters) who have had ovarian cancer, or women who have ovarian cysts, should be screened 6 monthly. This screening could save lives, and save fertility.

Ovarian cancer, mainly seen in peri and post menopause women. Many women of this age notice that being heard by anyone is a challenge. Suddenly they become invisible once their reproductive run is finished. The systemic disregard given older women needs to change on a large and healthcare specific scale before we can truly provide health care for this now underserved part of the population.

I had a 5cm complex cyst (no symptoms, it was found by chance when I had an mri on my back as I have a fracture in my spine) that looked dermoid on the scans, I had the Ca125 blood test and it was normal. However after removing the cyst and testing it I had stage 2 ovarian cancer. Ca125 only really shows in advanced ovarian cancer most of the time so don't just ask for the blood test insist on scans and removal as well. All the best ladies ❤️

My aunt had ovarian cancer and passed away. Recently I started having lower back pain out of nowhere abd/pelvic pain some bloating but not severe urine frequency and change in bowel habits. Was treated PCP for constipation and ordered pelvic and vag u/s, I was not feeling right or like myself at all and ended up going to ER had CT and US and found that I have hemorrhagic cyst. And dermoid cyst. Finally got into obgyn who was very unconcerned telling me that not cancerous and that would need to take the dermoid cyst out. I told her numerous time If family history and stated I was having constipation (not norm at all) and urine frequency and lower back pain. She told me I would definitely see GI Md and get scoped because that is no a symptom of the cyst. I just don’t understand why she would not be a little more proactive with my concerns. Hard to be an advocate for self when they don’t listen. Hopefully when the cyst is taken out they Will biopsy it. I have been listening to so many stories and my heart breaks for every single woman who the MD did not take a proactive route especially now when they should be aware of the symptoms even if they are related to other illnesses. Even if they don’t want to say the big “c” believe me I would rather be wrong than right.

You can get ovarian cancer young, a pap smear does not detect it. An ultrasound is necessary. Don't see a general practitioner once ovarian cysts are discovered. See a GYN. Don't ignore pain, swelling, wt loss, fever, or other signs you are unwell. Painful sex, painful defecation and painful urination should never be ignored.

Ok, sweetie, we are not doctors, but you do need to see one that will take you seriously. It does sound like you were dismissed when you have a whole list of symptoms that NEED further investigating. Please, please, please, ask around and call and find a doctor who will listen to you and who will find out what is causing all of your symptoms. You know your body and your should not be made to feel stupid, selfish or that you are over reacting.

I have had sonoscans since 2000...all come back with a cyst on right side. I have had a scan twice a year since then. I have always had bloating and pain in my abdomen. This was the reason I started to see an OBGYN for a scan. I have had 4 miscarriages. I have always been heavy. I have a larger lower abdomen ( all my life) but in 2014 after my last pregnancy loss, I began to have distention in my upper tummy too. Today I went in for another scan. And this time I was able to see the screen My uterus is huge and my right ovary is covered in cysts, and my left has one. I am on day 8 of my luteal cycle and so just ended my period 3 days ago. I am very very worried.

Make sure that the next Gyn visit you have you let them know your family history and also them them know how concerned you are. They will guide you with their recommendations. My CA125 has jumped from 84 on 12/14/2020 to 296.9 on 1/11/2021. Is this a big rise? I'm 4B High-Grade Serous Carcinoma and I'm scared. My daughter thinks it could be just my nerves which were shot that day of my labs. A lot going on. Waiting of CT scan I've been in remission and really hope I'm not getting a reoccurrence. I'm 50 with a history of PCOS since my late 20's. I had very heavy periods went on the pill then had to come off it because it was causing blood clots at the top of my inner leg/groin. Then they decided to put in a myrena coil and I've had 3 altogether to help sort my periods out. I'm still getting cysts and on Friday I see my gynaecologist for an internal examination. I've had this blood test that was mentioned and the levels are high but I'm not ovulating because of the coil. I'm in excruciating pain on my left side and after my last cyst was removed with my fallopian tube (left side) I still had the pain after my surgery. A CT scan picked this cyst up but because the bloods came back high my GP has asked for my appointment to be brought forward. I'll find out in 3 days whether I have cancer or not.

I've been sick this past week (cold) and few days ago, when I turned on my belly I felt a sharp suddan pain in the middle of the pelvic area. It hurt like hell and only went away a few minutes after. Now, whenever I either stretch (sucking in the belly) or sit down (putting more pressure on the stomach, say if I lean forward) the pain is back. bloating, urination, pain in stomach due to bloating, pain in pelvic area(pain in abdomen and pelvis are big signs of it spreading), lots(and i mean lots) of gas, tiredness(fatigue)...sometimes the period cycle will stop. Oh and bleeding from vagina sometimes happens. Loss of appetite.

I’ve just been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst (some doctors call it a mass). The radiologist recommended follow up in 3-4 months but I insisted on a consultation with an Ob/Gyn which my family doctor was in agreement with. I just want it out, it’s quite large, over 7 cm. I’ve heard of cysts becoming malignant over time. Am I within my rights to insist that it be removed? I’ve also heard that if they try to needle biopsy it and it is malignant that the needle has now ruptured the cyst and malignant cells are in my abdomen. That also frightens me!

Sadly awareness of this female cancer is not high enough, and there are no self checks you can do really apart from knowing the symptoms. We are always told about breast and cervical cancer, but ovarian cancer seems to still be very much a lesser known one. Ovarian cysts and fibroids (benign solid growths in the uterous) are very common, and painful periods are a sign, along with lower abdominal bloating. Ultrasound can pick up cancer along with these other things.
