Abbott appoints the chair of the Public Utilities Commission, which regulates Centerpoint. We all know how Republicans feel about regulations. We've been down this road before with Abbott.

They talk out both sides of their mouth. They don't like regulations but then put regulations in place to make themselves look good. Their insistence on not having regulations is what got this problem started in the first place. Sometimes disaster has to strike to point out the error of man's ways. Then they pivot!

Home owners should have to keep their trees from getting to the power lines. Or the city should take care of them. The utility company should monitor the ones on vacant lots. If a tree is on private property the property owner needs to prune his or her tree to keep it from reaching power lines.
