Well, it’s because RE was never supposed to be realistic. It was a fun horror game about special agents who fight monsters created by an evil corporation. Lots of jokes, lots of gags, and badass extra strong characters who knew where they were going to and were ready for all the fights. It’s different for re7 and re8, since it’s a story of other perspective and different tone. Ethan is no military - just a normal dude whose girlfriend, scientist-under-cover, went missing, after what he went searching for her and accidentally gotten infected. That’s why the story feels so different - the character has an actual backstory/background, he went from “just a normal guy who’s girlfriend is missing” to “weaponized mutant working for the government’s special forces”, and all he did was trying to protect his family

leon is gonna be the mc of 4 games once re9 comes out (re2, re4, re6 as his campaign is first, re9) and jill was an mc thrice as well (re1, re3, re: revelations 1). but i think chris and jill shared being an mc in 1, so he'd have been an mc 3-4 times if we count his campaign in re6 (re1, re5, again re6, code veronica x, and idek if i wanna add re: revelations 1 to his mc list lol). and if we count claire in re2, she was the mc thrice as well (code veronica x, re2, re: revelations 2) though imo i feel like re7-8 were more unrealistic than just zombies. i think tlou has the most realistic depiction of zombies since they arent fully dead and therefore dont decay, but re7-8 had fly vampires, werewolves, guy who can attract metal, people made entirely out of mold, severed hands that can work perfectly once attached or have goop juice on it (though this is because ethan is a mold man). unless you mean realistic bc he wanted to save his daughter, in which case i see it!

There's a beauty to Ethan Winters that no other RE protagonist really has. All of the other protagonists after their first showings usually have this "okay let's get this over with" energy as they've become desensitized to shooting through hordes of zombie-monsters, but not Ethan. He's constantly scared and openly struggling, but above all that he's more passionately motivated than anyone else in the cast, because as long as the people Ethan loves aren't safe and sound, he'll never give up. Ever.

By RE8, he actually wound up finally being my favorite protag tied with Leon. Ethan's got his own brand of sass, while having this incredible resolve to just look out for his family. And beyond what implied training he received, between 7 and Village, that man was just a civilian who clawed his way through hell and back-determined to protect and stay with his wife, even after the traumas of 7. And even after death, his bond to the megamycete permitted him a chance to protect his daughter again, when she was contemplating abandoning her powers. That level of dedication is probably only matched by that of Mother Miranda's insane desperation to resurrect her own long-dead child.

@@musfirah9341 ok so first of, the crazed woman and the man on the tv are people from the game before Resident evil village, and are relevant due to the medium of zombification in the two games being the same fungal substance. This is important because at a certain point in that game, Ethan winters is killed and reborn as a perfect copy made from the fungal material, which is a main plot point in RE: village and the reason his hand is able to be reattached so easily.

The person at the end of the animation is Ethan's daughter, who also had his partially fungal DNA and was chopped into pieces in RE: village, which Ethan then had to go around and collect to return her to full form... She was also still a baby during RE: village, which is why the cradle was in the animation. Giant pale lady, room full of dolls, the deformed guy, and the scarred guy with the cowboy hat all work under the raven themed woman who tried to resurrect her daughter using the dismembered parts of Ethan's daughter.

Bro fought what was arguably a god, as well as each of its demigod children, lesser angels, worshippers, and its messiah just for his daughter, WHILE having almost no power of his own except a form of dark healing brought on by such a god effectively having cursed him with a slow-acting corruption (that he fought through on top of the god). What I love most about crumbs art style is how it’s so clean, so distinct, without needing line art in the finished product. It’s art is always so well thought out with colour- the contrast is just enough to make the shapes distinct, and grab your attention, but also look like a gradient, look like one scene, look like the overwhelming setting overwhelms the character. i love love love that you start it off with a simple head bob animation where once the viewer thinks "oh this seems to be something lower energy this time!" you smack us over the head with the fucking gorgeous gorgeous smooth camera spin and the rest of the video being a full animation. the way you animated the spin it is very very impressive too, i could very easily tell the position of ethan even with the exaggerated movements and the dizzying camera which is such an amazing feat, because that shits HARD. and the whole thing is animated wonderfully, it makes me feel how i imagine ethan is feeling too. (simple minimal animation to smooth full animation being surprising - the past/start being "blinks" of memories and much more frozen in time, because no matter how awful or lovely they were, hes so fucking hypersensitive to the Now.) the way you do expressions also..... god. its so easy to understand how the character feels. ethan is so so expressive its so so lovely. thank you so much for sharing :) its such a lovely treat to see!!!

I honestly find Ethan to be THE BEST protagonist the Resident Evil series has. He has so much depth in his character-- especially when it comes to his motive. Ethan didn't have to *go* to Louisiana; he didn't have to *go* through the village; he didn't have to risk it all for his family. But he did it anyways, because he loves his family. I believe that's why his POV was in the first person. His motive was about love-- nothing more, nothing less. Back to the animation- THIS WAS FUCKING INSANE... AND YOU EVEN DID THIS FLIPACLIP?!?!?!? Everything about this is.. just stunning. The movement- oh my god- they're so realistic. The shading, the storytelling, the backgrounds, the transitions-- just everything has my jaw to the floor. I really like how all the antagonists look towards Ethan (the camera) and all the people who help him during the game look away or don't look at all (Mia, Zoe, and Chris). It also then, stands to note that Rose looks towards the camera too. Now that Ethan is gone, who is she looking at? Who's antagonist is she? Ethan’s gotta have one of the most tragic stories I’ve ever seen. He saved his family time and time again but never really got to enjoy it bc something also came up again right up until his death. Truly a doomed character from the start to end. His death genuinely was so heartbreaking to me especially since he’s one of my fave characters. :[ On a happier note tho this animations looks absolutely stellar!! You’ve really outdone yourself with this one! I love the amount of detail you added especially with the transitions! My fave part was from 0:36 to 0:45 with the detail of Ethan being consumed by the mold! The animation there looked stunning!! Awesome job!! 💚 :]

Hello!I have never interacted with this fandom, but this animation nearly had me in tears. The art---impeccable. Your style is so incredibly delicious to look at and the way you were able to capture the character's agony and grief and trauma was so tangible that despite my lack of knowledge of the lore I felt like I understood him completely. The use of color, the movement, the transitions---you did so wonderful!! And it matched perfectly to Rio's song, matched the hopelessness and futility that they had been able to portray in their music. I was genuinely moved! Never stop creating!

this is incredible, and I'd argue an example of why art is so necessary: two games and thousands of words of a man's emotional journey in a couple minutes. the emotion is palpable; both Cuptoast and Rio Romeo did so well here!

RAGH I LOVE HIS AND LIL RANT I LOVE THE LOOK OF ETHAN AS HE STARTS TIRED OF WORK AND THAN HE GOES TO THE BAKERS AND IS TERRIFIED AND THAN IN VILLAGE HES STILL SCARED BUT HES ALSO SO DONE WIH IT he’s just a normal guy not trained or super strong just a person forced into the wills of others he just wants a normal life but is forced into dealing with the perfect world mold girl wanted(forgot name:( ) and he has to deal with the after math of her and than in 8 with the mother character (forgor name:() but he’s scared but tired he hates them the people playing god he just wants his life and at the end when he realizes he can’t have that he just tries to give it to his daughter and protect her he gave up on what he wanted in a sense the man who wanted to live a normal life beat people who wanted to play god it’s so good

I listened to this a lot and I just broke down in tears, thinking about my childhood and how I got here and now I'm grown , this makes me think about the abuse I got as a kid and run to my room for safety, I still do it now unfortunately, this song just makes you think of all the bad times in your life coming back to haunt you, I'm not saying the song is bad, it just makes you feel nostalgic but in a sad way.......hope you guys are having a good day ♥️
