There are so many fantastic versions of this song but this top it all with stripped down emotion and her voice. My fav band in the world

Tons of people have done this, but she does it perfectly. One of the best covers. LC would be SO FREAKIN' PROUD! Not just a "oh wow LC rocks I'll do his song" but admiration, adoration, respect, and skill+talent+hard work.

corrocet mukmuk. It takes MUCH more talent to sing softly like this than it takes to belt a song out. Karin has captured the essence of the song and put her own soul into it. This is art, this is beauty.

Not many singers come along, male or female, that sing with this woman's strength and emotion. The genuine quality of her passionate expressiveness, is rare, and to experience a performance such as this, it personifies "beauty is truth, truth beauty"........forever, and all time crcjr11

I've listened to every possible version of this song. From KD Lang to the Accafellas and this performance is in my opinion, the most soulful rendition. It captures the gives forth the anguish and pain some find with broken love. From the musical composition to the flawless vocal, it sounded like perfection. Also From 4:42+ to 6:07, it may be the longest time anyone has sung without taking a breath in recorded history. 25 seconds..check it out.

And the true Love that is being revealed The deficit comes before the light And only an appeal to the light remains On the way to the only truth What is this thing that is separating between us To the good and the benevolent Only the desire that is instilled/engraved in us To pleasure ourselves Every time it rises up It progresses and reveals The true state that he is in That he is far from the Creator There is no more concealment

The facial expressions are her living the story of the song. It is another expression of her to the audience. Her voice is only one expression. Shakespeare said to thy own self be true. She's just being true to herself. Its her art.

I completely agree that she is amazing and one of the most underrated in the musical world...moreover, Over the Rhine is as a band. Their lack of exposure is completely telling of the weak and wielding music industry full of pop culture and profit margins, mostly void of all quality ,art and value....Over the Rhine is outstanding!
@erikvonriese14 жыл бұрын
This is probably the best female rendition I've heard of this song. I still wish women would drop the "remember when I moved in you" verse, tthough - I feel it refers pretty explicitly to male love-making, and there's other equally gorgeous (and too infrequently performed) verses that don't present the same problem. For example, the verse (my favorite) that culminates in "And even though it all went wrong/ I'll stand before the lord of song/ with nothing on my tongue but hallelujah."

I absolutely love Over the Rhine, and I love that they covered this song. I just want to make sure credit is given to Jeff Buckley, whose rendition of this song is a revelation, and very influential. If you haven't heard his version, you should check it out.
@nevanderson11648 жыл бұрын
Hallelujah needs charisma and power; Jeff Buckley is just too weak. It cries out for David Draiman lend his velvet growl, to stamp his considerable charisma on this track. Then we would have a version as impactful as Disturbed's Sounds of Silence cover.

The appreciation of art is purely subjective. Can one really say this or that is the best? But one can say I prefer this over everything I have seen or heard thus far.
