When the US first entered the war, the French and British wanted us as replacements (would fill billets in the French and British armies). Gen. "Black Jack" Pershing wouldn't hear of it, wanting Americans to fight under American commanders, but couldn't convince either general. To break this stalemate, an agreement was reached: the French and British would give Pershing the name of a town to be the location of the first American offensive. If the Americans won, they could fight under American commanders. So the French and British "conspired" to give Pershing the unenviable task of taking a village that was occupied by the Germans early in the war and had repelled 3 British and 2 French attempts to retake. Pershing took that city in 16 hours. They were flabbergasted, and it was the first hint that maybe they should be watching these Yanks closely. It wasn't the first time we'd done something that no one thought could be done, and it wasn't the last, but it was just another instance of the world looking upon America and asking, "you...you can do that?!"

@William Cline I've always wondered what secular secretive underlying motivations the isolationist United States had for involving themselves in the conflicts of Europe. Some possible contributors include armament purchases, value of trade, and the United States feared the emergence of a superstate in Europe which might seek to colonize or challenge it's hegemony in relations among the Americas. But perhaps these are not contributory at all and their is some larger or more explicit concern of import to foreign policy goals of domestic impact on business, and the true cause yet still alludes me.

The other day, I was talking to my Grandma about a game in Kaiserreich I had just finished, and the lore of Kaiserreich, and at some point while explaining the role of American intervention in ending the war, she started singing this song. After I got over my brief shock she knew the song, I started singing along. After a few seconds, my mom shut us down because, admittedly, neither of us have good singing voices. But for a moment, two people born ~60 years apart were singing a song most people nowadays don’t know.

US, UK, France, Canada, and Australia should always remain close allies no matter what. History is important and should serve as a reminder. There's a lot of negativity in today in social media and the media and in politics in general. It should not break the bonds we have and it's important for people to recognize that the few toxic people who attempt to spit on these relationships are in the minority.
@sendhelp82543 жыл бұрын
To me it's hilarious. Us and the UK used to be about as friendly as the UK and France, but then WW1 rolls around and we become best buds forever more. Same with Canada, and France has always been with us, ulterior motives or not.

Well the UK was already carrying and winning at the time, the us joining WW1 wasnt what brought hope back, instead it was much needed confirmation that the allies would win. the British were winning but the French were about to withdraw. no one knew if the British could hold their winning streak. Then came America which was the ally the British could finally fall back on.
@Spabsa3 жыл бұрын
@@elcungoid822 the British were only really holding there own weight. If the Americans hadn’t entered it would’ve ended in a stalemate with the brits holding their island and the Russians taking back the eastern front. But Europe would’ve gone to the Germans.
