Hi Hannah, this is awesome, thank you. You could pave your garden and expand the plant area at the back next to the shed in different levels which would look nice for displaying your plants. Or get a greenhouse then you can just put all the tender plants in there over winter😊

Less grass, more PLANTS Hannah! Great, informative and very clear instructional video as always. My own garden is a jungle with just a path going through it because I love plants soooo much and have no time for grass but I am sure it will look fabulous next year no matter what you decide to do ... How about converting your shed into a tropical hut or building a tropical stream/waterfall/pond? Would love to see you do something like that.

Hi Hannah-Your colocasia's done so well. I agree, the Lawns not worth the trouble given the recurrent problems. I'm planning on getting rid of most of mine this year and using it for more borders. I love your yard and your videos. You have done so much with it. You are thinking about getting rid of grass I could see a winding path with a fountain and perhaps some unique sitting benches scattered about Although it will probably be much dryer and hotter if you remove the grass. Whatever you decide I’m sure it will be gorgeous

You have a very nice little jungle there! It is so neat and organized. As far as the grass situation, you could use football or soccer field turf. We have large dogs that are just lawn destroyers so we have considered that for small parts of the back yard here at home. Great video!

Watching your video you said The UK so that answered that question. So, most or all you took to overwinter were bulbs and when you replant in spring they will regrow to the size I saw today? That's pretty amazing. All your plants look great.

Please do not get rid of the lawn. Aerate and scarify now with a good feed ion Spring (with the odd bit of weed management). You don't need an 'obsessed' lawn, but a well maintained green lawn is the heart of an English garden. A bit of effort this month will pay off handsomely in Spring.
@TropicalPlantAddict
@TropicalPlantAddict 3 жыл бұрын
John Jones yes I did all that in spring then treated with beneficial nematodes to help get rid of the leatherjacket grubs. It didn’t work so I’m assuming they will be back every year to destroy my lawn 😞 I applied 5 boxes of grass seed this year but it just kept getting destroyed by the grubs. I’ll try aerating etc again

Halina Kaczmarek As long as they are dried out and stored in paper bags they shouldn’t rot… You could use cinnamon powder instead

I was about to say maybe get rid of the lawn and just turn your garden into a jungle with a path through it (right as you said, “I’m thinking of getting rid of the lawn’)

No. Grass is very a very important factor. It brings out the look. Otherwise it will look dull

Can't cinnamon powder make the job of the sulphur instead?

You could use cinnamon although I believe it wouldn’t be quite as effective

@@TropicalPlantAddict thank you, cinnamon should be antifungal antibacterial and can dry out the cuts... Does these bulbs and also the corms of banana survive the drought of the winter monts? I have a little red musa like yours that lost the leaves im not sure it is still alive: it is potted, digging out of the pot and drying out the bulb is essential for this process of overwintering?

Marco Paganelli I do use cinnamon when I’m cutting plants to propagate. Regarding the over-wintering it depends on your climate and also personal preference. All my musa basjoos and other plants I mentioned etc are fine left in the ground over winter, I’ve had them a few years now 🌿

@@TropicalPlantAddict im in central Italy but I don't know if the ensete morellii can be simply left outside right now I don't have a garden just my balcony, I have overwintered coffe without problems but since my e. morelli is not doing fine already I was considering what to do if cutting the stem back to the grownd may be enough or if i need to possibly continue growing inside this summer my problem has been the heat with her not just from weather but because of air conditioning inside my home exhaling warmth outside on the balcony.
