If you want to capture license plates at night you can do this via the Reolink Desktop program. You go into advanced settings and set the shutter to 1ms and the "gain " to 40. Leave the IR light on. Everything will turn black. But at night, if a car passes, the bright headlights will not glare. And the reflective face of the plate will let you see the plate! 70% for me it works well. I set to 4x optical zoom and I can see license plates most of the time at night. Now in the daytime, at this setting, video is black and white but still very clear so I leave it. I have three Reolink Cameras. One 511w and two C2 Pros, which I place inside facing the window looking outside. Now for the C2 Pro indoor cameras, I leave it in color mode, even at night. This way I can see the color of vehicles and there is less motion blur, compared to leaving it in black and white.

What exactly is the SD card for if you have an nvr, Also can the cameras be connected to a power outlet and that's it or do I need to use another cable I see your talking about a little cable and that you gonna need a longer one??? I need to buy at reolink 8 channel with NVR,But I don't want wires going all the way back to the nvr from 8 diff places 😫... Nice video and thank you for your time I'll be awaiting a response... 🤙😎💯

The SD card would be used if you don't have an NVR. I don't have one of their NVRs yet (I will soon), so I can't speak on the functionality, but usually you would run ethernet cables from your IP cameras back to the NVR, however some do have WiFi capabilities too. Since this 511W is not a PoE (Power over Ethernet) camera, you will always need the power adapter, but you can use either WiFi or ethernet to access the camera. Running all the cables can be a real pain, but you will always get the best connection / most consistent quality that way.

Can I get 8 of those and hook them up to a reolink nvr..? I think that I can if so how does the controls on the phone work If you have it hooked up to one nvr and you snap a shot or record live motion on your phone does it record to the SD card only because the nvr would be set on 24 hours surveillance, ill be waiting for your response thanks 👍

Update 2021-01-18: Camera requires newest firmware, otherwise no connection to WiFi after power loss. I was initially disappointed. Now, it is working. Good resolution and picture of the camera.

@@supernova655 even though settings saved, it will connect only if Ethernet is plugged in. Then Ethernet can be removed. But now, of course, outside I want the camera to connect again via Wi-Fi according to the settings. This does not happen. The point is, that once configured, I want a device that connects to the Wi-Fi by itself without the need to plug in an Ethernet cable. Apparently others have same problems. I think little firmware updated would do it.

@@supernova655 The picture quality of this is good. Only the Wi-Fi. In fact, under FAQ and manual / support as I recall they mention that ethernet is required to connect to Wi-Fi, after that ethernet can be unplugged. But after power loss the connection doesn't get established. For ethernet operation only I think it is a good device.

It shrinks people (& the entire scene). Makes people appear shorter than they really are. I got another brand camera where people look fine in it. So, what am I doing wrong? Should I send back the camera? Can't stand the vertical shrinkage.

Nice that it has Zoom 4X, Pity there is no Speaker for Bi Audio function. Does it have ONVIF so you can record on a normal DVR? I have a HIKVISION 7204. Just received an offer for 80 EUROS for it, is this a good price.

To give perspective, how far away is the shed visible in the zoom test? Also, you mentioned using these with a NAS. If connecting to a NAS do you still have to set it up with or use the Reolink App? I was looking to use a Synology NAS. Thanks.
@overclockersclub
@overclockersclub 4 жыл бұрын
The shed is about 85 feet away from the camera. On my Terra Master NAS, there is an FTP setting that needs to be configured and then on the Reolink app you enable FTP. You can do it from the PC client software too. It took me a few tries to get it right, but it works well. I would think that Synology uses a similar method for FTP operation. If you don't set up a recording schedule and go with 24/7, be ready to store a lot of video clips.

I have two of these, and although they are OK in daylight, they false-trigger a lot with their own infrared (especially fog and rain which drives them crazy!), so perhaps best to use an externally-mounted IR floodlight a little away from the camera. This may also solve any issues with spider webs. The coverage isn't fantastic due to the nature of 5GHz WiFi, so you might need a range extender for reliable streaming. Left to its own devices with an SD card it's fine, though. And at least there's the PoE option to fall back on..

Yes, power can be a problem but you might consider POE (power over Ethernet) cameras if that is an option.

Does the camera start recording prior to or after the trigger event? So, basically, does it record a few seconds before motion (pre-record)? Or is there a delay, which could cause the recording to miss the actual event (depending how long that is in the fov...)?

PoE cameras usually work better with NVR's, so perhaps consider the standard 511. Alternatively, you could connect them all up to a PoE network switch and then Ethernet over to your main internet hub/ router, then simply place SD cards in all the cameras and use the phone app and/ or desktop client to view saved events/ live stream. No need for an NVR, then.

@@efmarosario4953 The "W" in the 511W means wifi, so this model must be powered with an AC adapter, but there is a PoE version that will work as you suggest. It is just the 511 with no W.
