After Jon and Michelle Schmidt lost their daughter, Annie, in a tragic hiking accident, their grief over her death felt crushing. But as friends, members of their Church community, and even strangers showed them an overwhelming amount of love and support, they found strength they hadn’t thought possible.

In October 2016, Jon and Michelle Schmidt lost their daughter, Annie, in a tragic hiking accident.
Annie was vivacious and fun and loving. Fearless all the way. It didn’t matter if she had to bushwhack from her car straight to the place she wanted to go.
I had never felt that kind of distress before; it’s a weight that would crush you. If it weren’t for others, I don’t think we would have been able to deal with it. We received a lot of letters from these little children. They said things like we are praying for you, and it brought me so much comfort.
It was amazing to have a couple of really close friends drop everything and just be with me. It was so comforting and gave me strength that I didn’t know I had.
To have people mourn with you, to be sad with you, that you knew that there were those that cared-it was that kind of love and support that we felt from people that was absolutely overwhelming. We just hope that we can be half as good as people were to us for the rest of our lives, that we can give back because we know how much it meant.

We lost my daughter Hanna at 19 suddenly two years ago. And if it wasn't for my Church family and my work family I probably wouldn't be standing here. Something my other daughter said the other day, because she has faith in the Church and eternal families she knows we will see her again

❤️ It is so hard to know what to say when someone loses somebody they love. This video helps me understand that sometimes we don’t need to say anything. Just being there and sharing the grief with them and loving them is enough. The words if they are needed will come from what is in our hearts.

I was quite literally thinking about this tragedy 2 days ago. My heart continues to go out to them. Schmidt’s music has changed my life. So much love.

Nothing like losing a loved one to deepen and strengthen your testimony and love for Heavenly Fathers plan of happiness. It has helped me immensely in the passing of my father and then sister/best friend. I’m sad for those who don’t have what we have to deal with life’s pains, challenges and loss.

I’m so sorry for your loss. A loss of a child is never easy. I hope & pray that God puts his arms around you so you feel his love. Family & Friends are the best during a loss. Please know she is always with you & loves you. You will see her again. 🥰❤️❤️🥰 Hold tight to “Family are Forever!”

I went to Jr. High and High School with Annie and she was THE greatest example to me. Everyone that met her instantly loved her because she was the kindest human on Earth. She just knew how to make you feel special and loved. Every interaction I had with her began with "Hey Kynna!" And the biggest smile you ever saw as she asked how I was doing and I could see in her eyes that she really really cared. She didn't want a usual answer that anyone would say "I'm doing good." She really wanted to know. Annie was probably the most popular girl in school but every day at lunch she didn't sit with the popular crowd. She sat with someone new every day, someone who was alone. She knew what was most important and she wanted to make sure no one felt alone. She was pure love. She was so much of an example to me that often times I would try to emulate her. I would think "Jesus is so perfect it seems impossible to be like Him, but Annie is doing it! If Annie can do it so can I."

God has been with me for so long I no he has save me to many time's I am so greatful to him I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for is amazing love unconditional I have been blessed throw is love and the blood of Jesus Praises God thank you Jesus 🙏 ❤️ I would like to talk to a missionary my sister pass away about 7 weeks ago having a hard time with it And was diagnosed with stage 4 Canern in 2019 had a tumor on my brain and right lungs a mass came back on me the lung cancer 3 different time now its in remission God is good I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him I am grateful to him and his love and prayers and prayers and for his love thank you Jesus for all you have done for me and one's all over the 🌎 I pray every day servial time a day for everyone all over the world for my family and friends God bless you all
