There are several other factors such as your training partners improving at a similar rate to you making it harder to see progress. Also an interference effect when learning something new interferes with aspects of your main game.

What's so annoying about this though, is that there are some talented people who will get very good (not as good as they could if they trained more optimally) just from rolling a lot. Those guys a lot of times end up becoming blackbelts, then gym owners and coaches, and to them that's just how you get better. They assume that everyone has talent, because to them it's just normal. Then they get a couple of students (maybe 5% of the gym) who have talent, and they pour most of their energy into helping those students. This isn't just a problem in BJJ either, it's the same thing in Judo, Wrestling, Boxing, and most other sports. You just funnel a ton of kids and teenagers through the sport and then wait for the cream to rise to the top. The goal is not in helping the average person reach proficiency or some level of mastery.

You missed the very important hip push technique at the start of you video on how to pass like gordon ryan. It's vital if you want to flatten the opponent out.
