I just want to cry even when I'm just thinking about this short. It's amazing, not only for Brian but for Rory and Amy too. It destroys me that Brian couldn't see that for himself.

It felt so bizarre that the show completely ignored how Amy and Rory's disappearance affected Rory's father, just a few episodes after introducing him so it's not like anyone would have forgotten about him. So this made a lot of sense when I found out about it.

The short "Good Night" is one of my favorite top tier Doctor Who scenes. The Doctor describing that people don't have poor memories but are simply experiencing the nature of time rewriting itself simultaneously as we experience it is an interesting concept and they express/explain that in a really sweet personal scene between The Doctor and Amy. I love it more than most episodes of the Smith tenure. Love it so much.

When Amy and Rory got stuck in the past, it had always bothered me that, as far as I knew, Brian would forever be watering those plants, wondering what had happened to his son and daughter in law. I had never heard of this short before, so when I clicked your link, I wasn't sure what I was walking into. It had me in tears rewatching Brian tell them to travel, and that was before the actual short even started. It was exactly what I was looking for, without knowing I was even looking for it. Over the years, I had come to accept the fact that we would never know what happened to Brian. I'm glad to finally be able to close that plot point. This is actually very similar to Blink in season 3, when the grandson (or great grandson) of Kathy Nightingale came back and gave the letter to her younger self before she got sent back in time, before we find out about the weeping angels. It was inspired by what Moffat had written in the past, but had it's own life into it. I hope Chibnall can take the life he poured into this short and give us something this heartfelt for the next season of Doctor Who.

before you made this video, I did not realize that "PS" existed. I always had a problem with how Amy and Rory's family were dropped after their exit. Watching "PS", I cried, I cried so hard. Before seeing this short it wasn't exactly what I wished for as I kinda wanted to see the Doctor showing up to explain what happened but honestly, this is perfect. So thank you so much for pointing out this gem for me. Also I completely agree that as you age or lose people you care about scenes like this hurt more. It doesn't matter if the person you lost translates to the person on the screen, the feelings of grief, of loss, does. When you see someone loose someone that they love, you remember the ones you love, that you lost. And tears follow. Love the review! Even though it may me cry!

I totally agree that this short scene kept the perfect balance for honest emotional impact without being manipulative. The though I had watching it was that it’s the kind of scene Pixar would kill to have right now, and one they done in the past. I had a similar reaction to the famous no-dialogue marriage montage scene in Up. Like you, I don’t think it would have hit me so hard in the feels if I saw it before a certain age. But when I did see it, it was from the age and perspective of having been married for many years. What’s more is, sadly, it was from the perspective of someone whose marriage was in the process of ending. And so what I saw in that scene from Up that hit me hardest was realizing I would not have what those characters did, a marriage that would last a lifetime. I may not have truly processed that realization in my head until I saw that scene. So it hit me like a ton of bricks. Experience truly is the best teacher.

The format must help. "P.S." is basically a brief voice-over narrating a letter, with very few characters involved. It also deals with very human, interpersonal themes which, although movingly done, isn't really science fiction. I always loved this short and Brian not being left to wonder what happened. Also the idea that Rory and Amy got to raise a child together is great! I know that River in the form of Melody was with them but there is a big difference between growing up with someone and being their parent, no matter how much you may have taken care of them. I also feel that Melody and Amy were closer, and school yard society being what it was boys and girls tend to be divided up. Also how much do you want to bet that Antony sneaked a peek at his parents before this? I mean Amy was a modal so would have been use to people coming up to her, so that American Man at some event who shook her hand and said he liked her work. The man who kept visiting the hospital with chest pains wasn't a hypochondriac but was trying to meet a certain nurse. Anthony was raised by time travelers so he knows not to mess with things too much but little things like these wont effect anything. I know you said you don't like head cannon but this is a little one that makes me smile. :)

And it is written by Neil Gaiman and it has Arthur Darvill and some Karen Gillian, so I would assume it’s canon and stuff, but who knows. It takes place in 1946, 8 years after they got sent back in the Angles take Manhattan. It’s very interesting and it just came out. You could make a Overdue Doctor Who review out of it. It doesn't resonate with me to the extent that it does with you, although I'm older than you: I have a son, and my parents and grandparents are dead. There are other time-travel stories that affect me more. Well, these things are very subjective. Come to think of it, I have one criticism: Rory had most of his quite long life in which to write to his father, and he wrote only one rather short letter? That seems odd.

I think Chibnall cut it to one short letter out of dramatic necessity: this is a short story, and furthermore the viewers don't really want to listen to any more. But, if I were in Rory's position, I think I'd probably have written a whole series of letters over the years, for delivery simultaneously.

I watched it. It was amazing but now om angry. This proves, without a doubt, that Chibnall can write some beautiful doctor who. SO WHAT THE HELL WENT WRONG?

I wish in 11's regeneration the Tardis let him actually see Amy and Rory with a portal or something. I think people would forgive a lack of explanation for that.

Sorry, I'm just imagining Rory walking down the TARDIS steps, touching the Doctor's face and saying "Raggedy Man...goodbye." It's too funny an image.

havahog I doubt that's something fans could overlook cause it's some the tardis hasn't been shown it could do before

@@kevin10001 maybe if it shows the Tardis straining itself in some way. That would explain why it malfunctions after regeneration. Maybe stick a visiting River in their with.
