The 250 seems so much bigger than the 220. That bucket with those huge teeth on the thumb look like they mean business. Ive never run one of those machines but Im impressed with the huge amount of power they have digging and lifting things. Truly modern marvels. Your videos are a real treat for me to see. I had those issues on the ranch! I went out and bought 8 x 4 ft levels, and other tools and put them in each truck we had then. I had 6 permanent crew so each got to pick their truck based on seniority. I then said that there’s an inventory of every tool on each truck. I warned that I would be checking randomly and if tools go missing, it comes out of their pay check. I said if they tell me about a missing tool in advance, I may let the replacement cost slide. I inspected each truck 2 or 3 times and before the final inspections, I was getting the information about missing tools in advance. Often another crew member would pick up the tool and let the other know they found it. If we replaced a tool and found it later,,, happens,,,, haha,,, the tool went into the shop. Eventually we had a fleet of 12 trucks. The seasonal workers were horrible for losing tools, but many popped up. In all actuality where we live and how we pay our employees as employees,, and not contract employees,,, it would be illegal to take the tool costs out of their pay. They never knew, I never told them and I also never deducted them. Some of the seasonal were fired for losing so many tools and having sh*tty attitudes about if they lost them, among other things. That was incentive enough for the others to keep track. When you have 18 trucks out there and they are all losing tools it could add up significantly!! For no real reason. If a tool broke, it broke and I never cared (except when this one kid was a new hire for the summer. He didn’t like that his tools were old and his truck was the oldest (but only 5 years old). He broke an awful lot of tools. I would expect more breaking due to being the oldest, but he broke a lot!! Bent wrenches that just should never have bent etc. I decided to let him go before he wrecked the truck to try to get a new one. He wasn’t happy, but I gave him 2 weeks pay and what we owed him and escorted him off the farm because I felt he was going to do something. 5 weeks later the transmission failed in that truck. I hadn’t done a transmission in a truck since we switched to all automatics!!! He must have driven the p*ss out of it!! Those core 6 guys stayed with me for between 18 and 32 years!! Virtually unheard of in Ranching!! I paid them more than others in similar jobs were paid on other ranches. They had no incentive to leave and I properly rotated the newest trucks to them. Small things really but big to them!! The pay cost me about an extra $38,000 the last year I had the ranch, but if you lose one person with that level of experience, it will cost you more in training etc to get another person up to the level the person who left was. I felt it was cheap insurance, great for the crew and less stress for me!!! Wish more employers understood that vs paying as little as they can get away with.

That rocky material could be marlstone. It is basically a mix of carbonate minerals, clay and silt. Basically a mix between limestone and mudstone.

If you work it right you are going to get to close or the same level of compaction. They were driving the truck fully loaded over the clay for the dam for compaction. That’s gotta be every bit as good or better. 100,000 lbs or so. At the 5 acre job site where they were driving. Over the dam to haul dirt to the middle with the haul truck, the packer would go over those locations and it wouldn’t make a dent. That indicates that the dirt packed by the haul truck at that point was harder than the sheepsfoot could get it. The best part of the packer Chris has is it can get right up against what he needs to, it’s much more maneuverable, wayyyyyy more fuel efficient, and it has the vibrator that does help in the constant rate of compaction throughout the dam, or location he is packing. More than one way to skin a cat.

You should add a bubble level app to your cellphone for when you forget larger levels. They are very accurate and free.

The concrete top is so rough it would make the phone bubble level far from accurate. That’s why you want a 4ft or even 6 ft level. It accounts for the rough surface.
