Excellent upgrade. STLs downloaded and getting set to print. This type of upgrade is exactly why Zach made it open source and invited upgrades, modifications, etc. Beautiful work; genius upgrade for a genius system... That had some flaws, some that ZF himself pointed out in a recent video.

Great, although instead of screws and heat set inserts, you could 3D print some little dowels? They can be push-fit if tolerances are done correctly. They won't have fabulous strength but they won't really need to...

I think they fit different use cases. The original is simple and adaptable. Your example of the base coming out of the draw is very unlikely if there are other full containers in there. Yours is better built, but more time-consuming to put together, and if you want to change any of the base dimensions, you've got a lot of work to do. Still cool though

Well, it's gets the job done. What is the purpose of magnets? So the grid doesn't jump of the metal drawer bottom? Are inserts necessary? Bolts might hold fine in the plastic, the walls are thick and there in not much load. Suits the OVERKILL vibe though.

@@kylewarren69 thanks for the clarification. so you would need somewhat heavy bins surrounding the bin you're lifting - otherwise it might lift the baseplate itself? which is your video was not the case. So whats holding the baseplate down? Am I correct that in oder to utilize this system - every bin has to be modified to accommodate the magnets in the bin - right? Thanks for the great work!
@klab3929
@klab3929 14 күн бұрын
Its a good thought, but impractical for large organization, a lot of plastic, printtime and additional inventory is required. Additional time for assembly. But gridfinity has its flaws like mounting them together as you showed. The lifting of the plates mostly has to due with tolerances, and a little with the interface design could be less angle dependent, this one solution here could be to eliminate the corners and just keep the middle straight part. Rather than screws to keep them together I would use small pins, that would reduce the height significantly and print time and plastic consumption. Could use inbuilt dowels or similar too. However its always fun to make things overkill and redesign :D
