Overland Track Packing Guide

Hi Cam, question on what to wear when walking - for a hike in November: Are gaiters necessary / recommended if you're planning on wearing long pants, and will have overpants (only plan to put this on if its raining, as I've found it gets really hot and sweaty, really quickly) available? Also, for the gloves - particularly when walking (I know you mentioned its essential for the camp): Will wool gloves be fine? (Just with the potential for wet weather) - or would waterproof (ski) gloves be the way to go?

Hi there - I would say Gaitors are good for all times of year though as mentioned you may get a bit hot in them. They will certainly help against scratches and snakes issues if you find any. And easier still, if you don't want to wear them on a day they just strap on the bag real easy, and light. Gloves around camp, wool ones will work great and keep you warm. When walking I would use a light weight non-wool options persoanlly, but I don't wear gloves that often when walking unless freezing, Ski gloves will get too hot, even in poor, cold weather. You can get waterproof gloves that are quite thing but still keep you warm too. Hope that helps! Cam

I’m sorry to hear your time poor Walter. There is a complete packing list on the Tas Parks and Wildlife website which maybe more express for you to gather the list of gear to bring. My business is walking the Overland Track so it was only relevant that I include some of this in the video(s). After a 2:30min introduction I do begin to discuss the gear needed, in my opinion, to walk the track. I wish you luck and hope you enjoy the walk as much as I do. It a walk to take it all in and take your time to enjoy. Happy hiking 😊👍
