Overlander vs Offroader vs Rock Crawler. People get caught up in overbuilding their Overlanders and in reality you may not be a rock crawler.

Which one are you? Did I get anything wrong? Do you want to know about pre-runners?

I've seen a few pre-runner builds and they look amazing, I'm thinking of doing a Pre-Runner/Overlander build if it is possible, if not I'll lean more into the Overlanding aspect of it

Good stuff buddy… I’m not rich, just irresponsible. I usually just say they’re all offroaders, but if I had to pick… my Liberty is a overlander/offroader, my TJ is a offroader/overlander, my JL is in the process of becoming my Rocklander (rockcrawler, offroader, overlander). We have to get the Tundra out… I’m filming much better videos now. Also got a buddy with a power wagon that might match up well with your tundra.

This video has helped put into perspective more of what I want. I just moved to Colorado a year ago and up until now I've only ever had lowered cars. One thing I'm learning quickly out here is how much fun you can have while driving slow. I have a Mini Cooper Countryman I'm building for Overlanding but I'm learning I'm going to need something more capable cause I wanna do some off-roading as well. So, me being me and not knowing how to leave things alone, I'm going to teach myself some fabrication and make some other idea(s) work with the Mini. I've been watching a lot of your videos and they've been very insightful. Thank you for the content!

Right now, I’m a solid KZbin Overlander 😂. I have an extremely capable 3/4 ton truck that is overkill for overlanding, but I don’t care, it’s what I wanted. I plan to start overlanding when the weather cools here in the SE.

Yeah my truck is going to be so overbuilt for overlanding here soon but I don’t care, I’d rather it be something I like and can bug out if stuff goes haywire. But it’s cool to know we can also take my GFs Subaru overlanding if we wanted to.

Overlanders here. We are explorers/travelers/campers. If we do any rock crawling it’s the minimum amount we have to do to get to our destination.

That’s where I’m at honestly. I’d done the occasional rock crawl thing in my day but it was never really my thing. I’ll do it to get somewhere but not just for the sake of it.

Yrr just a camper with lots of stuff.....nothings changed. 50 years ago you'd have a f-150 with a camper shell and all the necessary shitt......a road Map.

@@tonymontes8840 man 10 years ago I had two feet, a backpack, no map and just happened to live near the Appalachian trail. Sometimes I feel like that was really camping.

@OXFOOT I hear You......had the exream pleasure of knowing folks in the Northern Bristol, Tennessee and Virginia Mountains and Lakes. A backpack, sleeping bag, friendly attitude was enough to get around back then.

Growing up in Oregon, "offroading" was "goin' wheelin'" 😄. Very different from overlanding, and nothing as technical and expensive as actual rock crawling. More mud, small rocks and tree debris, beat the crap out of a rig til you get through. I like overlanding, it's (usually) a nice happy medium.
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Ай бұрын
Yeah in North Carolina we called it mudding. It was basically let’s drive through the woods after it rained. Great way to dent your truck if you ever needed to do that. I’m happy with taking it easy on my trucks now.

I go rock climbing, snowboarding, backpacking, and fishing in and around California. While getting to a lot these places I come across a lot of dirt and/or sandy/washy roads, obstacles here and there, and end up camping out of my Bronco most of the time. I see a lot of climbers on some of these same dirt roads with Priuses, box vans and school buses converted into tiny apartments. To them it’s more of being out there climbing on rock than “overlanding.” The big difference for me is I also like to go fast on said dirt roads so my Bronco is getting built up with some inspiration from the pre-runner guys 😂

That’s how got into all this. I would sleep in my old forester at a Walmart near ski resorts or at the trail head to a 14er and eventually it just became, “how can I get closer to the trailhead” and then here we are offroading lol.

Hi Jason, thanks for sharing the different things you can do with your rig or vehicle type to get off road depending your type of destination. I'm looking to visit BLM and National forrest dispersed camping which some of the roads can be tricky depending on how far out you want to get. Always appreciate the information and knowledge you share. Look forward to your next video. 🏞
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Ай бұрын
Yeah some BLM can get pretty tricky. I’ll do the offroad trails on BLM land but if we start having to do heavy rock crawling I’ll try to avoid it.

Lol to be fair I was doing what I could with what I had. Now we do it with a more appropriate rig, but I would say I call myself an overlander that likes to play sometimes but doesn't have the ego where I always have to try the hardest stuff.. and at Wheeler I was technically just trying to get to the lake to camp😂 that was the only line of that obstacle I could even make lol. Great video. I also follow white dog overland. I am for sure on the more moderate side of things now

People really need to just get out there and see what fits their needs. So many people blow so much cash for things they don’t need- which is fine if you are aware of it but lots of people assume you need a crazy rig. I put money into my tundra so it’s capable for moab and the other trips I take it on. However 90% of off-roading I do- I could do in a Subaru crosstrek lol It is a nice feeling to come across a hard trail or obstacle and not have to turn back tho !!

Sorry I missed the premiere. I really liked your overview in this video. I think I would like to be an Overlander/Off-Roader. I want to do up to moderate rocky trails for the purpose of getting to an awesome campsite or view. On a related note, I missed the premier because I just took delivery of my new 2024 4Runner TRD ORP+. Thanks again -Chris🏔️🚙
