Welcome to this tent tour including a few hints and tips of our Robens Klondike bell tent.
We believe its the best tent for cold winter UK Family camping 2023
We've camped from being kids and had many adventures with our tents, from the big ones to the very small ones. Overlanding & backpacking, roof tents to ground tents. But our new all time favourite has come from Robens and its called the Klondike Grande and its a Bell tent. Which Includes the wood burning Gstove and much more.

I came from the Oztent range.. rv3’s and 4’s there excellent HOT weather tents, quick to put up and take down. Good for overland travel… But, being shaped like a garden shed when a storm with strong winds is on its way, now thats a different matter! I’d say hot weather go oztent, cold and freezing go robens. Oztents on dark depressing nights can be very sole breaking.

The fridge is an easy one, we’ve the Engel35 12v compressor fridge, had this now since 2007ish and its an awesome bit of kit. As for the showers we’d normally find a campsite with showers, but in the past we’ve used a large cook pot and boiled water and put that into one of them shower bags and hung it from the landrover 😁👍🏼

Hi Love your channel keep the videos coming mate .Quick few questions you got me interested in the robens tents. I'm in between 2 robens tents klondike and the kiowa.And what log burner do you recommend?.Been told to watch for sparks coming from the chimney which could land on the tent .Lot of money to get wrong so just need some advice .Thanks (robens klondike grande wont be in stock till next year ,only the smaller klondike in stock) .
@Overlandtraveladventure
@Overlandtraveladventure 2 жыл бұрын
Firstly thank you. Not sure about the kiowa tent, but i will say with Robens you’ll get a great tent which ever you pick. Sizes between the Klondike’s I don’t believe are that much different, although we worked out the footprint to our setup. Thinking tents that taper in with the roof you’ll lose (standing) floor space on the inside! Log burner: first only use good quality dry wood, can be collected from the woods, just not the painted stuff from an old garden fence or shed! Chimney really needs to be a least 800mm above the roof like ours. use a spark arrestor. Stoves! Lots on the market, we wanted a glass window so went for the Gstove (expensive) but saying that if you ever come to sell it you’ll get good money back, lots of additional extras available also like ovens and hot plates… Hope this helps, any other Q’s please ask mate 😊👍🏼

Got the 6 man robens klondike and the outbacker firebox flame stove which is made for the tent .Have you ever thought of getting some sort of tarp to shield the door of the klondike. Not yet had the tent up ,was looking at a 3m x 3m tarp so do you think that would work .As for the stove pipe baffle does that just pop through the stove sleeve on the roof .Do you get any rain coming in or is it sealed.Sorry for the many questions yet again .Thanks Gary
@Overlandtraveladventure
@Overlandtraveladventure 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gaz I think a tarp would work well over the door, not always needed but would work well in some scenarios. Yes you'll get a little water coming in around the chimney shield. This is unavoidable unfortunately but isn't usually a problem. As it only tends to be noticeable when the fire isn't lit. maybe a tray under the fire would catch any droplets.

Great info on your set up. We are thinking of a klondike but 4m. Could 2 bed cots be placed side by side with head to the wall foot to the pole like in your 5m set up? I'm also a bit dubious of the central stove pipe exit, how do you find it compared to one set further down the tent roof to right or left of door?
@Overlandtraveladventure
@Overlandtraveladventure Жыл бұрын
Great Questions KJ, yes I believe they’d fit although a little cramped.. not sure where u live but try GO Outdoors as some of the stores have these tent’s already setup for you to walk a round & i’m sure you’d be much happier taking a walk around one first!? I can agree with the stove being offset in a smaller tent as this would give you more standing head room in the centre. Now with the 5m you still get the headroom around the stove..! hope this help & let us know how you get on! Good luck

@@japan-black hi Simone & no worries… the smaller gstove is ample mate… & yes we did buy extra pipes! As you’ve seen we sit our stove on a box which firstly gives it a 400mm lift (an ideal height for stalking and loading the fire whilst sat down). HI. Great video! Thanks. Anyhoo..... Just bought a stove for our Klondike and was wondering when the stove actually went up. Do you put it up when erecting the tent? If not, how do you get the chimney out through the hole for the flue? I'm not tall enough to reach right up there (just like you ;-) ) We can't wait to try it out.
@Overlandtraveladventure
@Overlandtraveladventure 2 жыл бұрын
Morning Craig As you’re putting the tent up just make sure the “chimney sock” is out and not inside the tent, this will make pushing the chimney up though the hole much easier. The sock as i’m calling it does have a cord that can be adjusted for a better fit but we’ve never bothered with it.. if it rains you’ll get alittle water coming in from around the chimney heat shield anyhows! Hope this helps bud and enjoy the warmth 😉

The Robens Grande is 5m across, we like ours as we do go camping all year round. It all depends on the campsite, some have no problem whilst others its a straight NO! Trouble is, is when you mention the word “fire” campsite owners just hear scorched grass!! We’ve had mixed feelings with campsite owners! I will say sometimes its easier to show them your set up, mention you protect the grass and have a fire extinguisher to hand, cost of your tent etc… position tent down wind and away from others if possible… also use good dry timber and keep the smoke to a minimum… occasionally the owner has dropped by to check and they’ve been impressed… good luck

Doesn’t the petrol stove stink out the tent? Isn’t it dangerous?
@Overlandtraveladventure
@Overlandtraveladventure 2 жыл бұрын
Any stove can be dangerous with the flames and also fumes so caution should be taken at every opportunity. However well-maintained petrol stove will burn just as clean as an LPG stove, also work in minus temperatures. One very good point to mention is with tents made for a wood burning stoves they’ll always have good ventilation, especially at the peak of the roof (unlike your everyday tent) so whilst using any stove in the tent it is advisable to open up the top vent… as for the “stink” no.
