The GZERO show is ending the year 2023 with at least one new fan. I think Ian Bremmer has done an outstanding job of examining, well, outstanding problems that are shaking and baking societies across the world in the proverbial oven of the Armageddon sympathizers. To Ukraine's credit, the Russians have held firm against a counteroffensive by a country going at Russian front lines with no air superiority, no carpet-bombing of the endless minefields, sometimes with 5 mines planted per meter! It has moved ahead without G-9 bulldozers making acres of dragons' teeth go away. It has moved forward without Warthog ground support fighter planes loaded with 50 mm cannon and one of foot soldiers most feared weapons to deal with. It has gone ahead without Apache Attack Helicopters which would have taken out machine gun nests, troop carriers, anti-aircraft guns, missile carriers. It has gone ahead without F-16s which would have ground any Russian counteroffensive to a swift halt and also taken out dozens of hidden artillery batteries. Boys and girls, does anyone realize that the Ukraine was given the go-ahead to do their counteroffensive without any of the aforementioned weapon systems and kit albeit tanks, Himars and anti-tank Javelins etc. The last I want to say about AI is that recently in an interview, someone said that an AI robot was questioned by another robot about if it was a robot. Listen carefully, because if this is true, we are all in for a shock-future: the robot which was questioned had its inner thoughts revealed and it was asking itself if it should answer the question honestly and say, yes, or come up with a lame excuse. Boys and girls, this sounds like consciousness in its nascent stages of a silicon-machine-brain right off the assembly line. The ball is in the human community's court, Ian and Zeynep, but have we already lost the AI championship match in advance?

Ian, you talked about war in the world right now, but then mentioned just three conflicts-Ukraine-Russia, Israel-Gaza, and political strife in the US. This is a real problem I have as an Israeli-American-there is such an intense focus on Israel, to the complete exclusion of almost all other conflicts, which contributes to the singling out and vilification of Israel. What about the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh? What about the spate of coups in West Africa? What about the civil war in Sudan? What about Venezuela vowing to conquer more than half of Guyana? What about the brutal coup and civil war in Myanmar? What about the war in Yemen? And those are just a few of the conflicts going on right now that I happen to know about, and I’m not even much of a news buff. By the way, Zeynep Tufekci is amazing-thank you for that interview!

I'm not a news buff but I know all the conflicts you mentioned which means the news is out there. Furthermore what wars directly impact the US? The 3 he mentioned. This is an American news channel. Ian does discuss other things like what's happening in Haiti, which you left out. He's also covered much of what you said about other wars. But again, this channel is from an American perspective. How diluted and muddled do you want this channel to be just to cover everything with equal weight around the world? As far as Israel being vilified, Israel is a sovereign country and has a responsibility to manage its world image. That's one of the purposes of diplomacy. And much of the world doesn't watch Western media yet have formed the opinion they disagree with Israel. I don't remember getting upset when travelling overseas that much of the world condemned the US for the Iraq war. I find in life if a lot of people don't agree with you, you could blame them and even if you are right, it won't change anything. Or you can take a look in the mirror and ask why are people responding to you like that. Israel has the right to do whatever they want as a sovereign country. But the world has a right to judge its actions. Israel and Israel's supporters need to take a look on the mirror. Or they can call everyone that doesn't agree with them Hamas sympathizers... which won't change world opinion, probably harden it from being insulted and accused of supporting terrorism.

@@rufescens "Who asked you to argue?" translates to, "I don't really want anyone to challenge my views on a public forum, so I will be petty. I am fully aware no one needs permission to address me on a public forum but I use that baseless argument." Haha, good luck with that, I'm sure Ian will personally answer you soon.

Suppressing Trump by American establishment would be another significant issue in 2023, it attracts a great deal the attention of Russians and Chinese. They are eager to know what is wrong with nowadays America’s democracy.

I have bad news for Zeynep Tufekci, facial recognition has been on phones and other data/communication devices for years, so the questions not if but what rules, if any, need to followed. also, China is far ahead of the US/Europe on establishing AI regulations but, ironically, the Western media has created with hair on fire criticism about "heavy-handed" and "draconian" regulations while proposing exactly what China is already implementing in regulations, perhaps because China is 3~5 years ahead on mass AI applications.

Increasing American headaches inside and outside would be the most significant happenings in 2023, especially de-dollar around the world. As Barack Obama said: “Don't underestimate Joe's ability to (expletive) things up”.
