This volume honestly gets flak only because it's the first volume to shifts the POV from mainly ainz to side characters. People never have problems with POV shifts in vol 5-9 cuz they had been preceeded by vol 4. Vol 4 honestly is good. Inspiring story of the lizardmen and lizard sex, first guardian character development, demonstration of the existence of good side characters etc. It did so many things excellently but somehow still the community's least fav volume

There's also the backstory and culture of the lizardmen. The Lizardmen shares some "biology" with your usual Meat eating Reptilians. But in their culture they preferred eating fish. And while primitive, they developed their own fish pen. They are also hygienic and they have their own caste system. The main character Zaryusu is also the symbol of the stigma of tribalism. While considered as an exile, he is also one of the strongest, if not the strongest, lizardmen. But he had only attained such power because he decided to go outside his own tribe. Crusch's tribe on the otherhand suffered greatly from tribal wars amongst other lizardmen. While not directly the participants, their people died and the food source still drops in their territory. They opted to eat "red meat" instead. But it was revealed that the former leader was giving them lizardmen meat. Crusch is also an albino so she was treated poorly but she was the one who leads the revolution and she has a talent in druidic magic. So, she usurped to be next leader of their tribe the "Red-eye" Lizardmen. Imagine playing the usual RPG games not knowing what the initial mobs you encounter have these tragic histories they carry as a burden.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one rooting for Zaryusu

To me he's one of the best parts of volume 4, quite a compelling "main" character
