I own the real Rockman sustainer , chorus/delay and Overload's THU plugin version. The plugins sound great. plus there are things you can do with the plugins (like have delay and chorus on at the same time) that you can't do with the originals. If your a BOSTON fan and want Tom Scholz legendary sound, these are a must have.

the plug in clips a lot even when the meter input an d output are low, is that the way the real rockman worked? i'm kind of disappointed
@Evelpino2 жыл бұрын
@@razhua That is strange. I don’t have that problem. I even use a Nu Tube Screamer pedal in front of it without any clipping at all. And a real sustainor doesn’t clip at all unless it’s malfunctioning.
@sleekitwan2 жыл бұрын
Are you in GarageBand by any chance? I have found some combinations of FX in the list on the left of the track, can clip yet there may not be a way to tie down where in the chain it happens? I have often the GB standard compression on, and the reverb because in GB iOS/iPadOS, that lets me set how wide the stereo is. Obviously then, my other plugin, goes in between. You can start by just lowering anything like that, or in my case turning GB’s own compressor gain settings down somewhat, and keep going until the crackle disappears. If it’s really an issue of the type I am saying has happened to me, then it must disappear at some point. And, you can drop in the GB standard EQ into different locations, and see if the overly-high signal shows itself. The one other source of crackles, is nothing to do with that, but instead is the effect over-taxing the CPU or more likely, the DSP. In cubasis in my iOS ipad system, it shows the DSP separately, that seems to be the thing that shoots up to the 90% and causes crackles that can seem like the signal is being clipped? Good luck anyway, I ended up getting a used ipad pro M1, partly because even my Pro 2 was asked too much of prior to that.

@@razhuamine did clip, but I don't remember it being as much as the app does. I actually turn down my input gain when using this effect with a JS plugin in reaper before using this one just because of that. I haven't had one in years so I can't compared directly back and forth, I sadly of those units that didn't survive the housefire. Got it back in the late 99 or early 2k when no one cared or wanted one for like $30. Wanted one so I could get the Hysteria and Def Leppard tones my Roland VG couldn't do. Got it along with a Roland 707 I got for $20 I should have kept. Anyways, this, thing sounds and plays pretty much like I remember the original, and as the original post says, does even more becuase everything is on/off on this instead of the sector switch on the real one, so in many ways it's better.

You know I have tried various amp sim softwares and have both Amplitube and TH-U. And find TH-U much nicer and easier to get the tones I need. I don't need this because it is already giving me what I do need, but this is cool. For someone looking to reproduce Schon's, Satch's or Def's guitars it a good option.

5:01 why there are clicking in your product review? I have the same with my vst preset hysteria and any similar settings when you rise preamp gain and rise up sustain longer switch. That`s not the way it should works. Feature of rockman sound is precompression at start of signal chain, but it`s not possible because of clicks. I wonder what Tom thinks about this. We all know that he does not appreciate digital stuff. For myself, I do think this software emulation is fantastic. I am the owner of a Sustainor 200 and a stereo chorus and I would go as far as saying that I enjoy playing the rockguy a little bit more when recording since I don’t need all the extra equipment to make a Sustainor sound good. For live playing I will trust my analog rig more though.

If you want the 80’a Boston sound, this works. If you want the two 70’s Boston sounds(🎉1st & 2nd albums) then this doesn’t work. The chords and single lead notes of the song More Than A Feeling played on this video prove that here.
@Notinserviceij10 ай бұрын
that's because the first 2 albums were marshalls and next lot were Tom's rockmans lol
@yactabay10 ай бұрын
@@Notinserviceij That is correct. He also said he modified the Marshalls a bit, if I recall correctly. I don’t mean the power soak. There was a Rockman-like change on the second album but it was a good change making the sound of both albums good. It was as if he was running a Rockman circuit through the Marshalls. By Third Stage he had taken enough time to feel he could run the Rockman straight to the board creating a downturn in sound. The music was still pretty good though, albeit in third place. Maybe that album should have been called Third Place, instead of Third Stage.

in a way, yes. They just made it simpler to have the chain laid out in the same way as the actual gear and dialed effects in to get sounds similar to the rockman units. People have been recreating tones close to Boston for ever using digital rigs like this. This one just makes it easier. Just my 2 cents.
