Newstate Nomads, I just stumbled onto you a few minutes ago, and liked what I saw. I drove to AK from IL (solo) in '84, and enjoyed every minute. Whittier is isolated, I'll grant you that. But, I'd bet a few in the Bush would give it a run for its money. One would have to be Anaktuvuk Pass, which is 59 miles west of the Dalton Hwy. to Prudhoe Bay, located in Gates of the Arctic N.P., and is home to the most isolated post office in the country. Another would be Adak, which is halfway out the Aleutian chain, located at 1142 miles from Homer, which is the nearest town on the road system. However, if you're talking about being able to drive to it, Whittier would have to be at the top.

It’s amazing how quickly the human body adapts. I went from Texas to Washington state. Sunny 88°F is too hot to walk around the city now. My cousins visited me and gasped at my complaints. They where in a piney brisk paradise!

Don’t wish to be a know it all but the progression of cars into the tunnel does not go as stated. The fifth lane is for occupied motor coaches and the like, they go first. How do I know this? I driven a coach thru the tunnel countless times.
@NewstateNomads3 жыл бұрын
John, you're right in the order, 5 goes first. I was referring to just that they go sequentially. We didn't clarify that even though I realized later that the 5th lane starts the process. Thanks for watching! -Howard

@@NewstateNomads. Am enjoying your travails from Key West to Alaska. A trip I have personally done twice. I currently spend winters driving the Conch Train in KW, while traveling to Anchorage each summer. I drive a coach and spend time doing land tours throughout the State. Not this year or last however, no cruise ships yet in AK. BTW I drive a 2018 Navion. Would be happy to show you proof of this coincidence.

Whittier is not the most isolated town in Alaska by a long shot. You can drive to it from anchorage. There are many communities in Alaska that have nooo road access, including, but not limited to Cordova, yakutat, most of the southeast communities, including the capital , juneau, ak. Only access by plane or ferry. Whittier is a beautiful spot with a road.
