Overnight Sturgeon Fishing Excursion on the Snake River

It's been nearly a year since I last targeted white sturgeon so I figured it was time to go back after them. On this trip, Nick and I headed down to the Snake River with hopes to redeem ourselves after encountering some mishaps last August.

Baits like ghost or mud shrimp come off the hook if you don't tie them on.

Great video. I stumbled upon the channel thanks to the KZbin algorithm. I just had to subscribe to help support my fellow PNWSTE KZbinr! Interesting choice of bait. When I've been sturgeon fishing on the Columbia river, we always used smelt, & a sand shrimp tied onto our hooks. I haven't been sturgeon fishing in over 5 years. I REALLY need to get out there again!

Great Video! Can you eat any of those, is there a slot limit, or catch and release only? Back in the 80's we use to catch and eat those big ones in SF Bay. Not anymore, there's size limit, and it's not healthy to eat sturgeon or any bottom feeders anymore, because our bay's heavily polluted. It's too bad, I loved eating sturgeon.

Try 80lbs power pro as your main line, much stronger than mono and you can cast further

My friend look up bait elastic thread you can wrap your bait with it it's soft to the bite from a fish so they don't get spooked by the mono or braid and it also helps a lot better than mono ever would stick your bait to your hook that is cheap for a lot of it you can get like four rolls of two hundred feet or something like that for ten bucks

You need stretching string to wrap the bait on you hook. It makes it faster and easier not tying involved.

I’ve used those fish finder rigs for years and never used a bead. They don’t affect your knots at all.

Its an adjustment on how fast the line or weight comes out the bait casting reel

Yes, mainly the brake system which controls the speed of your spool when casting.

That line is way to thick for that size reel which is why your getting bird'snest and short casts.

Gotta work on that technique a little. When you're reeling down don't put your rod down so fast, you're putting your rod down then reel, it should be the other way around, reel then slowly put your rod down and keep reeling. And have you tried a spinning set up?? It's a lot easier. Keep up the good work 👍
