Good video! I think the AK hand is what it is. Most Players would have rejammed that spot, and if he had the range you put him on you’re flipping at worst. At least you got max value. However that’s being results orientated I suppose
@dougmccuskerpoker
@dougmccuskerpoker Жыл бұрын
The thing that bugs me about the hand is that I wouldn’t jam with AA. I would 4 bet to 225 or so. Makes his call better, and my jam worse.
@nicholi2789
@nicholi2789 Жыл бұрын
@@dougmccuskerpoker Thata true a jam looks more like AK and a 4 bet looks much stronger. Long term you want him to fold in that spot

I’ve had mostly losing sessions due to being 1) afraid of the nuts, 2) overfolding and giving too much credit. Hoping to change things since I have a good understanding of poker theory but it all changes once I sit down at the table I feel. I’m 21 so i got a lot of time to figure it out
@dougmccuskerpoker
@dougmccuskerpoker Жыл бұрын
Most of the stress comes from not being properly bankrolled. When you are properly rolled, you are indifferent to the actual outcome of individual events. Always play with in your comfort zone and bankroll.

@@dougmccuskerpoker I mean, to be honest, I don’t live NEAR any poker room (being from NY). So it’s like 1.5+ hours to get to any single one. Wish I got to play more consistently, and set money aside for a true bankroll. I play 1/2 and really enjoy it, but as dumb as this sounds - I feel like I’d perform better at 1/3 since I actually have studied a lot. Feel like at 1/2, so much of that theory, GTO, and “making moves” doesn’t exist. When I watch vlogs and educational content, they’re tailoring more towards a game that has true ranges and whatnot. I’m probably wrong, and I’m gonna keep playing 1/2 since I enjoy the low stakes of it at my young age (only making 2k-3k a month, in college, and living at home still). Your vlogs have helped me a lot, and are truly so entertaining

Targeted aggression is the key. Some players play fast all the time, some never play fast. I think that keeping your opponents guessing what gear you’re in pays.

Last night the guy right next to me in the first 30 minutes got aces back to back, then kings twice, Jack's 4 times, and aces again, then queens all in 30 minutes, while I got 8 5 off suite 3 times in a row and plenty of 9 2 off suite, played for 5 hours and never got a single pocket pair 😮‍💨

I feel a good size 4 bet may look stronger. My plan was to put pressure on hands I was flipping with, I figure he would fold all pairs smaller than QQs and fold at least some QQs rather than risk his stack on a flip.

Hi Doug. The previous vlog got me thinking when you were in for $2k, which is unusual for you. How many buy-ins do you typically bring (if you prefer not to answer, I understand) and have you ever got down to your last buyin for the session? Thanks!
@dougmccuskerpoker
@dougmccuskerpoker Жыл бұрын
Good question! I normally have 4 buys ins, only once in the last few years have I left because of insufficient funds. If the game is good and the stacks are deep, I may add 1000 to my stack to cover most players. Of course my goal is to grind up the 500 to a sizable stack, but even the best plans don’t always pan out.

It’s work, have a notebook that I take down all the pertinent information after each hand. Short handed games are extremely difficult. Video picks up info as well, try to always get the glimpse of the board.

shoving w AKs is never a bad play... its bad only if your opponent has a bad hand and snap folded. AKs has 42% against QQ+/AK so you're actually flipping against the top of their range. Plus getting a fold from TT/JJ would be tremendous
@dougmccuskerpoker
@dougmccuskerpoker Жыл бұрын
That was my thinking at the time. Then I realized that I am not shoving with AA there. I would 4 bet, KK would shove a very small %, now my hand looks like AK or QQ, JJ. Makes calling with QQ easier. He is still risking the flip, but he doesn’t fear the over pair. I now feel normal size 4 bet would be more effective in getting more folds from QQ. JJ and TT would most likely fold either way.
@HoangTruong-vk7ek
@HoangTruong-vk7ek Жыл бұрын
@@dougmccuskerpoker QQ is almost never a fold pre-flop unless there r 3 or more people in the pot showing extreme aggression. Heads up 4bet pot QQ is either a call or 5bet shove.
