New to saltwater, but very experienced with freshwater so I was prepped for cycling, bioload, etc. I have several of these beginner fish. Annnddd then added a blue spotted puffer. It was an impulse buy because my girls loved it and it's been working out so far! Everyone seems to be getting along and sharing food peacefully. The only traumatic event was when I thought the puffer was dying the second evening when it changed color, curled up against a rock, and started bobbing when it went to sleep. 🤣

No orchid dottyback and purple firefish together..the pseudochromis likes to go after similar looking/colored fish and it wont end well for the purple firefish..other than that the list looks great..
@freakygoblin30683 жыл бұрын
I know you mentioned it with the 6 lined wrasse but to highlight, it's generally recommended to add in order of peaceful -> semi-aggressive regardless of fish types. It's useful therefore to build a stock plan. Plan and research before shopping and once again.. no impulse buying. Should be noted the more "hiding spaces" in your rock work the more likely the fish are to come out of hiding as they feel safe. Chromis are hit and miss from what I've read. Loads of stories about starting with 3-5 and ending up with 1. I'd probably add an algae eating blenny, such as a Starry Blenny ((Salarias ramosus), to the 30g+ stock lists but they are one of my favourites anyway because of their character so I am biased.

Firefish tend to be the most timid, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to add that fish first. From there, flip a coin on the Royal Gramma or two clowns. I don't think you can go wrong either way 🙂 The cleaner shrimp can be added at any point once the tank is cycled and there is no ammonia present.

@fishels38952 ай бұрын
For me I always say less is best. Cut the clownfish entirely (or just 1 if you must have one). Flame Hawkfish I wouldn’t recommend as they can sometimes go after inverts and I feel even 40 may be a bit small for them. That depends on the dimensions of course. Maybe something like a Swiss guard basslet or possum wrasse if you can get one to accept food. Another reason I say less is it opens up more room for inverts! 2 cleaner shrimp, Hermits, Emerald crabs, Pistol shrimp, serpent stars etc. I think inverts are very underrated lol

As long as there is enough habitat in the tank (i.e. rockwork) to give the fish places to hide and your filtration is capable of taking care of the fish waste, you should be just fine. Of course, keep an eye on the tank and look for any signs of aggression.

I'm working on setting up a macroalgae tank, though haven't secured the actual tank yet. I'm looking at either a 10 or 20 gallon, but the stocking would be pretty much the same either way: 1 ocellaris clown, 1 rainfords goby, 1 yasha goby and 1-2 tigrigobius multifasciatus. Do you think this selection would work fine in either size, especially since it'll be macroalgae dominated?
@lionfishlair52152 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a good selection. The only thing I would worry about is keeping two different gobies in the same tank, many people believe this is a big no-no and can cause aggression and in-house fighting between them. However, my friend kept a watchman and fire goby together for many years, and they got along perfectly fine. I suppose it is just dependent on the individual fish, your aquarium stocking, and the size of your tank. Good luck dude, I would certainly recommend the 20 gallon tank as well 👍

slowly, in batches, from the least aggressive to most aggressive. This way, your peaceful fish have time to settle in, and your biological filtration has time to grow/adjust to the new bioload. I'm thinking pair of clowns, pair of goby and shrimp, 3 cardinals, 1 six-line wrasse, and a dwarf lionfish. Noted that the lionfish may predate on the cardinals or even the clowns, thats why I'm planning to start out with a small or juvenile lionfish and add him lastly in the stocking lineup. Will just let them be "friends" with the other inhabitants as he grows. Is this doable?? I've seem success with this set up tho. In which the lion doesnt bother its tankmates and cares only to the new things that fall into the tank. What do you guys think? Do you guys have any suggestion in terms of centerpeice fish?? A great alternative to the purple firefish is the exquisite firefish. Pros: 1) even better coloration (the white area on them is slightly yellow) 2) they are from deeper waters than purple firefish and I find that they do not jump at all if you have issues with that (although get a lid anyways) Cons: 1) much pricier 2) they are from deeper waters and they tend to hide/live deeper in the rocks than your average firefish. I have one that literally burrows underneath my rockwork in the sand every night about an hour before lights off until morning.

@@c3dpo i guess to add a little what nemo said. ive seen my blenny fight with my tomini tang but not often and just more for space than being mean and the diamond goby is just a sand sifter and does not pair with a srhimp like a watchman. having two that pair with shrimp mite cause issues if they are not a mated pair. you didnt ask about dragonetts but ive seen my green spot chase my much larger green mandarin around. but over all a very peaceful tank

I have a fork tail blenny and a tail spot in my 29 alongside my yellow watchman goby and neon goby which seem to do fine together. The yellow watchman is territorial but will rarely go out of his way to chase unless they get too close to him and his shrimp buddy’s home

And a citrine clown goby as well

Hey guys! I’m a somewhat experienced freshwater aquarium keeper and I’m looking to finally start my own saltwater reef tank…I’m in the design phase still but I have a 75 gallon tank of standard dimensions and I’d like to have input from the saltwater aquarium community on how I set this up…I’d like to have Bangii Cardinal fish x 2 Diamond or Yellow Goby x 1 clownfish x 2 Royal Gramma x 1 Marine Betta x 1 Flame Angel x 1 Foxface rabbitfish x 1 I figured about 43 inches of fish and subtracted 15 percent of the tank volume for rocks, sand and corals so that leaves me with around 24 inches of volume remaining. Should I add any other fish to the tank? Should I keep it roomy? Is that feasible? Any info is helpful…

Pistol Shrimp is reef safe with caution. They tend to bury any frags or small coral you have on the sand bed. OR just flat out snag it in their cave.

This is my experience as well I found them a real pain in the backside and once they are in they're a devil to get out.

I like this video because I feel it's given me permission to add eight fish to my 30g long aquarium. However, I keep hearing that if you add three Banggai Cardinal fish, two will pair up and kill the other one. I've also heard of Flame Hawkfish killing shrimp gobies.

The big key to keeping the peace is often feeding. Feed small, but frequent meals throughout the day and you'll likely see less aggression in the tank overall.

I actually have 3 pj cardinals and they've been together since day 1 when I moved from a 45 to a 75g. And according to my research if the hawkfish was first put in and established he will eat shrimps. So probably try having an established shrimp in first before the hawkfish! I love the red hawkish they are so comical.

@@PhiCongDoan7587 I've heard PJ cardinals are more peaceful. I have a flame hawkfish in quarantine right now. I added a HUGE cleaner shrimp a few months ago to the DT, so hoping the baby flame hawkfish, who cracks me up, will not attack a large established shrimp.

@@pabloramirez8130 about 2 months ago i added a small-ish flame hawkfish to my 50g. I have a HUGE 6 year old boxer in there and i havent seen him touch the shrimp, hes like the rock of shrimps lol.
