@Benjamin Price Mozart creates an amazing effect by showing us a IV7+ (D-F#-A-C#) at the beggining of the bar, and then leaving only the minor chord (F#-A-C#). It's quite striking! . That (and some of the chromatisms present throughout the piece) makes the main D major of this overture dark, disturbing and sometimes bordering on minor tonalities.
