Overview about the different shutdown methods for HV systems (EV/HEV)

Well, it's always the same. Each car manufacturer is using (more or less) his own method for shutting the HV system of his cars. Furthermore, there are differences between older and newer models, too.
This video will give you an overview about the different existing methods and how to use them.

Cool. In this case do we have two HV batteries, right? In a real case scenario with this car, i would need to disconect 12V batteries and 2 service plug to shutdown both high voltage batteries, right?

Thanks for your comment. :) What make you thought, that there are two HV batteries? In any series production vehicle you will only find a single HV battery. Two different batteries would make no sense as you need controlling and montitoring elements for both. But maybe, I have explained it too weird. :D

Great video Got a car from auction eqc 21/22 Mercedes Everything seems to be connected as u explained Only found the negative v12. Is there another replace I need to look ? Coz I believe the ev system is shutted down

Thanks :) The first step with EVs (and any other modern car) is to read out the fault memory. This is the best place to start with, otherwise it will become to confusing. Do you have a chance to read out the fault memory?

@@InsideEVTraining hi mate Yes I do have launchx431 but no ignition So can I still read out ? The thing I believe th high voltage disconnected so no power to car even lock and unlock doesn’t work Only interior lights which they r connected to v12 i think

You probably have no choice but to try it :) Sounds like a tough one! But I hope that it is something simple!

@@InsideEVTraining it just weird Coz no power no ignition Only interior lights works and even key doesn’t lock or unlock the car. I feel something isn’t connected But can’t find anything Is there a way to test the high voltage connection ? I tried scan tool doesn’t give you much

G'day :) That's a good question, because neither Daniel nor I have had the opportunity to work on such a car. No power at all / only interior light means obviously that 12V is on but high voltage system is not released from the BCU. As this is a modern a car and as I know Mercedes, I would suppose that you need the Mercedes tester to reset it. Is there any fault code? Or what has happened before hand? Cheers, Chris

Ok, that sounds a bit more difficult at first sight. If there is no power at OBD, something is wild. Try to connect your Launch tester and see what will happend. When even the doors are not opening/closing something must be wrong with the 12V system. What is the voltage of the 12V battery? Is the battery maybe discharged or broken? How long wasn't the car used?

⁠​⁠@@InsideEVTrainingthe obd has power Yeah v12 was dead but I jumped started and still nothing I connected to scanner too and there is power but it says ignition not on or out ignition .. but I’ll try again tomorrow as I removed v12 to charge it. But some people said the high voltage what turns the car V12 only turns interior lights Wipers .. etc So can I still scan it ? Also been told that maybe a special scan took where it shut down the ev system and u need merceds to enable that again ? Is that true ?
