Sort of forgot the Reba which is the more affordable version of the RockShox SID... 🙄

Hi there. I know this is an old video.. But was looking around and stumbled on this one. I've noticed you said about these following ones was not tested by you. Bu...what about the Entry level ones.. Which one is the best to start with and is reliable? Recon, Reba or Judy? Something I can do XC without worries. Thanks in advance
@MTBsАй бұрын
Yes, that was an old video all right! ;) The Reba is a bit more modern than the Recon and (don't quote me on this) I think it's the same chassis as the more expensive SID but with cheaper internals. So for XC riding, I would take a closer look at the Reba.

Thank you! This video did not do very well, but I am glad that some find it informative. I am planning to do another video about shocks too, just to have that out of the way as well.

Sounds like a very good plan! I will be waiting for that video.

Do you think a 150mm 2021 Revelation RC can hold its own for a beginner starting to go trail/allmountain slight enduro and jumps?
@MTBs2 жыл бұрын
Sure, why not? The chassis is sturdy enough, but the damper (I guess it's still motion control) stiffens/is a little harsh in fast rocky sections. The Revelation is usually a lot cheaper than the Pike, but if you can get a deal on a Pike that is clearly a better fork which can deal with fast hits better. But I think you can upgrade the Revelation to a Pike at a later stage if you feel the need to.

@@MTBs Thanks for the advice! I have the opportunity of buying a new Focus JAM 6.8 Nine 2022, but it's the lowest of the range with Revelation and Deluxe Select.
@MTBs2 жыл бұрын
Ok! The Revelation should be absolutely fine and if you want more out of it you can always upgrade it to a Pike at some point. But you should always test ride yourself! What I think is acceptable might differ from your opinion.

Is the Sid ultimate lighter than Fox 32 stepcast?
@MTBs3 жыл бұрын
I think from 2022 the 34 sc replaces the 32 and makes it more comparable to the SID 120 mm version which is at 35 mm in width. The 34 sc is a little bit lighter than the ultimate, but only just.

Have the 2021 SID Ultimate SL. W/o thru-axle, w/o lockout, but with UNCUT steerer tube (new condition) the fork weighs in at impressive 1309 g - substantiating the claim by RS that it's the lightest XC fork on the market. I also have some Fox forks - and they weigh 1600-1700 grams. Go figure.

How about the recon

Agreed, it's a fairly common fork I guess. Have never come across one yet though, but thanks for the reminder!

So which better for cross country?
@MTBs2 жыл бұрын
Without knowing if you race or not I would say a Fox 32 Performance or Rockshox SID (base Rush RL damper) would do the trick for most people without breaking the bank. You could of course go to lower tier forks, but that will add weight among other things. A question mark for bushings play issues on the SID, otherwise a very well performing fork.
@JurisKankalis2 жыл бұрын
What do you mean - with a fork that you don't recognize? There are only 2! Even Marzocchi is Fox. There is nothing else - really. Have abt. 15 bikes - incl. some with older Marchozzhi forks from 2001 - and some with Manitou - but the most modern bikes are either of the two large producers. Speaking of which - I have never seen Rock Shox forks with problems on the polished upper leg surfaces. However, I have seen two fairly new Fox forks with worn-out coating and actual groves in the surface. I don't know how hard - and how dirty - the forks were used, but as I said - I'haven't ever seen Rock Shox forks with that. Thanks for the video - and yes, Reba - a great light almost top-level fork - where is it? But there are also older/lower tier RS forks missing - Judy, Duke, even more ancient Jett, Indy, etc.
@MTBs2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, completely forgot about the Reba in this video. Have never tried it either as far as I remember, so that's maybe why I forgot about it. The lower end RS forks I didn't bother with. The video is long enough as it is. 😜
