Overview of Prosthetic Suspension Options

There's an increasing number of options for suspension systems these days. They all have their strengths and weaknesses depending on amputation level, activity level, and activity type. In some cases, multiple types of suspensions can be used together to provide redundancy.
Suction:
Fewest moving parts, but can be difficult to get the fit just right. The biggest downside is that even a tiny pinhole in the sleeve can reduce the suction enough to create pistoning in the socket and be uncomfortable.
Pin:
Simple system to take on and off that doesn't require a sleeve but inherently has some pistoning because of how the pin is attached to the liner.
Vacuum:
Uses an active pump triggered by natural motion to suck air out of the socket and maintain a secure fit. This has the most moving parts and some systems even have an exposed tube that can wear out or get snagged on something.
Martin Bionics Soft Socket:
A softer and more comfortable socket option, but the lack of rigidity may make it less responsive for more aggressive activities.

Revofit Boa:
Provides a way to dynamically adjust socket fit via a BOA system like the ones commonly used on snowboarding boots. One big advantage is the ability to adjust it through pants legs whereas other sockets are more difficult to adjust without taking them off which can require taking your pants off.

Osseointegration:

60 year BK amp, I use Pin Lock system with 6 mil thick liners, solves a lot of comfort & Skin related issues.

What brand is your vacuum/ pin system? I have just recently gotten my right BKA and am trying to get an idea about the options out there. Your channel has been great as I am active and will be doing much the same activities as you talk about. Thanks!

Do you like that ossur unity or what is your favorite foot? I have an Ottobock Triton foot and hate the thing! It just makes me feel slow and sluggish. It has a pump that well sucks and I hate the sleeve. It’s my first foot and I hate it. For reference I am 8 months post amputation.
