Overvolting a stock Stryfe to see if it Burns out

I have a stryfe that is completely stock (except that i disabled the jam door switch and dart lock). I've been running it on 2 IMRs for months because i haven't got round to overhauling it yet. It runs fine and is powerful enough to have fun. I accidentally put 3 IMRs in it recently when i got muddled up between that and my rapidstrike. I revved it for about 2 seconds before noting i'd made a mistake, but it's still fine.

My friend has been running his stock stryfe on 4 imr's for over a year and hasn't burned out anything. He has a box of stock motors though so it's not like he's worried about it. We have a loaner bin with other flywheel blasters that get used with 3 imr's and still, all fine. Been doing that for years. Crazy.

Julian Sanchez Do you think the motors are Rhinos? MTB makes a Rhino motor that runs on 11.1volts that I have in my Demolisher and use a 3S lipo. If you don't want to wire it for Lipo batteries then maybe just get 3 of the imr(145000 3.7volt rechargeable imr)batteries and 1 dummy cell. You can find them on amazon just search what I put in the () and go with the best rated. They are pretty cheap and come with a charger sometimes. Anywhere from 850mAh to 2000mAh ive seen used and all seem fine

It's the thermistor that stops the flywheels from revving. You can run three IMR's by bypassing the thermistor. To bypass it, you have to twist the two parts together.

It’s the thermoster and the way you deal with that is you twist it so that each wire is touching. It is that tiny yellow thing in the top right corner of the blaster that looks like an omega

I lived in bellingham too! The rain there is so nice!! also for everyone else you can disable the thermostat circuit by twisting it and then using 3 IMRs and a dummy battery. Then it will work

So what was burnt out that caused the smoke? Was it the carbon brushes from the motors or was it the thermistor resin coating melting?

My guess is the thermosistor as that is its purpose. If the thermo was out, the brushes for sure.

Stryfe can take at least 12 volts max. I did a messy experiment involving taping 8 AAs together with the thermistor long gone. Worked like a charm. However at that voltage the motors & stock wiring might jerk off easily.

Never mix battery chemistry , so under no circumstance should you use Li-Ion batteries with Alakaline cells. You could try 2 IMR with 2 dummy batteries, but it will still probably shorten the life of the blaster.

I rewire all my Stryfes, this was just a silly video. I would suggest you also rewire your Stryfe instead of just trying to bypass the thermistor by twisting wires together.

Never mix battery chemistries. Use 2 Dummy batteries. This is repetitious, but I cannot stress enough, never use different types of batteries together.

If I'm interpreting your question right, you are asking if there's a difference between having dummy batteries and a 9V and have no dummy batteries and a 9V? Dummy batteries are essentially the same as wire, there would be no difference between having a true "dummy battery", i.e. just a conducting material in the shape of a battery, and having no dummy batteries at all. As for if it would burn out a Stryfe's motors or not, I'm not sure. A Stryfe is meant to run at 6V, so if you are running the motors on 9V, it may damage the circuit over time.

Although the argument could be made that the original Blue Stryfe probably didn't have as many production corners cut as the Orange, and by this I mean the motors in the blue Stryfes may have been better quality, the voltage jump from one cell to an additional cell is so high that even being a blue stryfe would not make a difference.
