Are you living in the middle ages? Not even Japan is that uptight about “the first born” anymore…these days they are more like “we wish there was a first born to begin with” (cause Japan suffers from a huge demographic change and the fact that young adults feel too pressured and stressed to have children). But real talk: At the end of the day you have to answer just to yourself. Being a good human doesn’t necessarily mean rising to everybody’s expectations. And sometimes even our own families can be manipulative about certain things…sometimes without realising it themselves. Hanzo and Genji for the longest time were “programmed” to think that they are honourable by obeying and maintaining the family standards, when in reality the Shimadas were only a glorified organised crime group that was responsible for a lot of people’s suffering. Genji got wind of it earlier than Hanzo, but he only really found his humanity by becoming a cyborg. Hanzo suffered throughout his in entire life, trying to meet the family expectations, but only when he was forced to kill his brother, he wasn’t able to stand it anymore. Now he is in his 40’s and he basically thinks that it’s too late to make up for things. (Listen to his excluded Busan karaoke line, his old voice lines and the kiriko and moira line, Hanzo feels really bad about a lot of things aside Genjis death apparently)
