So for a long time, there was much speculation in regards to Pyro's gender. In-game there were a few odd things that popped up, compounded by the fact Pyro wears a mask and bodysuit obscuring all notions of who they are beneath everything. Demo and Soldier both have domination lines that insinuate Pyro being female which lead to questions, but nothing perhaps had people zero in on the issue quite as much as the lockers. In the setup area of each map the teams spawns use a lot of the same assets. One of them being a set of open locker cubbies with items pertaining to each class. In Pyro's locker, there is an extra mask and, of all things, a purse with a flower on it. This purse lead people to theorize and contemplate just what was going on with Pyro and who they actually were for a long, long time... Then, we got the "Meet the Pyro" video, where the entire community waited with baited breath, hoping to finally learn the answer to the -burning- question of the masked menace's identity, only to find... well, turns out Pyro is just crazy. All the theorizing and well-thought-out scenarios attempting to discern Pyro's identity became useless in an instant. A crazy person doesn't need to use gender to justify using a cute purse. All the time and effort put towards arguing about Pyro's gender were simply thrown out, and we embraced our crazy flame-retardant psychopath all the same. Valve did not give us the answer we wanted after so long, but, they did give us the answer we needed, and it was so much better.

The Phlog used to do less damage, and instead of invulnerability it topped off health and took reduced damage during taunt. That was fun because you could fight your way to the capture point, taunt (refilling your health), start capturing the point (because you're not invuln), and finish by standing there spreading crits on anybody that tries to stop you. Its current balance is more fair, but less fun to play ;]

Best thing is the prepop the phlog behind a corner so you can ride out with the crits before anyone can react.

Something to keep in mind with this video in particular is that these videos are about Lazy's own experience with the class, and aren't necessarily indicative of how most people play it. While you _can_ play Pyro as a sort of team player bodyguard, it's more common to see people going solo and playing him/her/it more as an ambush or combo class.

Something to bear in mind, when the game originally came out, airblast wasn’t a thing. It was added later. But it’s become such an integral part to good Pyro play that removing it is a huge downside

Please no phlog. The phlog can still wipe entire teams without an easy way to counter if you don't take it down early. Essentially you either throw everything at a good phlog, or your team cowers in spawn until the round ends. The damn thing is hated

If a Scout flanks a sentry they can at least do some good damage if they know the rotation speed trick. The same applies to twisting up heavies or avoiding demos. But the phlog's weird hitbox nature means that if he can see you and you don't have a straight line to run backwards, you died just because he walked right

i love to jetpack with the backburner, and divebomb, and i use phlog and the hammer, and i get mmmph from killing the spies infesting your nest, and then i round the corner and kill the medic soldier harassing the nest from a hallway, and i will even break some of their nest. I’m relearning the Dragon’s Fury after coming back from a long hiatus, and i will NEVER be consistent with reflects. I am always too early or too late. I swear i’m blinking.

As much as people dislike it, I like to use the homewrecker for 2 reasons: 1. it helps the engineer who might get overwhelmed. He's my buddy and I got to keep his creations safe. 2. Spies HATE it when you stop them. So knocking off a sapper AND burning them? They have their eyes on you; however they try to take down the 1 thing you care about in spite. The engineer you protected. So... what do you do? You trigger the spy. Walk away for a while to help elsewhere, thereby telling the spy "Oh no, the engineer is alone. It would surely be upsetting to both engie and pyro if the spy attacked while the duo was apart!" so by knowing this, you return just at the point you'd think he'd attack; burn him, remove sapper, hi 5 engie and then the spy is more angry so he's more likely to do it again. Just as the Spy's job is to think how others would, the job or a spy-checking pyro is to think how a spy would think about others. >:)
