Overwintering Wax Begonia

My son bought me begonias a few years ago. I wanted to save them so I did exactly what you did. I keep mine on my covered front porch in the warmer seasons. In the winter I cut them back and put them in a north east facing window through the winter. Thanks for sharing.

I think I'm going to let mine go this year. I didn't water it like I should and it's not looking so hot.

Do you cut back to the points it’s just soil and no leaves and stems are showing? And is it done right before winter?

I leave a couple of inches all around, basically giving it a big haircut. I bring them in when night temperatures start getting in the mid 50's.

I want to do this, but I’d have to re pot it. What kind of insecticidal soap do you use? I always have tons of bugs outside. Right now my pots of begonias have lots of ants in them 😩 I hate any bug. How do I make sure I won’t bring bugs indoors? Also, my window sills are very low to ground and with kids it won’t work. So can I place on a nightstand that is right front of a window?

Yes to using something to bring the plants up off the floor. I mix my own insecticidal soap. A few drops of soap in spray bottle. You can drench your plant by putting it into a container a bit larger than the one it is in and leaving it to soak for 30 mins or so. The bugs will come out to the surface, hopefully dead, from drowning.

I have one that’s been brought inside for winter but not cut back. Will it still survive? It looks pretty good just leggy.

It'll survive but will most likely keeping getting more leggy.
