It is rich in terms of context, subtext and visual metaphor. But not in moral or message. It's neither bad nor good, it's entertaining (Edit) Ok i messed up a lot here because of my inmature self of 1 year ago
@yoman78732 жыл бұрын
@@sai-gammarell I thought the message was pretty good. The main message of the show was that the only one that can save you from yourself is yourself. I like how they analysed this message by putting it in different situation and even managed to find out flaws in their own message. Really good show.
@sai-gammarell2 жыл бұрын
@@yoman7873 I thought it was good too, until I saw other shaft series and understood the formula. It's style over substance, fanservice over substance since it does not have a goal at the end of the franchise. Of course sophisticated conversations are something you don't see in modern anime, but if these messages are not developing a specific theme, have no real impact on the development of all the characters that participate, and are quickly forgotten because attention is constantly diverted to a lot of fanservice and degenerate fetishes and fancy animation when it is not necessary leaves it as something pretentious and hypocritical. Look for example at Tatami Galaxy. "Only you can help yourself" energy, more subtle, and more sophisticated with almost no pretension.
@yoman78732 жыл бұрын
@@sai-gammarell So, your main issue with "Monogatari" is fan service? Well "Monogatari" was pretty self aware about its fan service so I didn't really had any issues with that. Also not all Shaft shows have fan service. "Madoka Magica" and "March comes in like a lion" are two other popular Shaft shows and both of them have no fan service. Now as for "Monogatari" not having a goal. I think the goal of the franchise was pretty clear. Monogatari was taking anime character archetypes and viewing them with a more realistic lense. Each character was introduced as an archetype. You had the Tsundere, the nice girl, the moe girl, the tomboy, the loner, self righteous, pervy protagonist and of course a menacing evil bad guy. The show would than go around analysing each of these characters and the situation that led them to be the way they are. The characters would then break out of their archetypes and turn into much more three dimensional people by the end of the show. The first season(Bake, Kizu, Nise and Neko:Kuro) introduced us with the world, the characters and their problems. The second season was the one where the characters solved their problems by themselves and the third season(Tsuki, Owari,Koyomi, Owari 2, Zoku Owari) was the one where the protagonist solved his issues with the help of all the other characters. I think both the message and the way it was delivered was pretty clear and not pretentious at all. Now coming to your final point. I don't think "Tatami Galaxy" is any less direct about its message than Monogatari is. Personally I could tell what the message of that show was by the third episode itself. I think "Tatami Galaxy" is just too repetitive in it's storytelling for my taste. I like the authors other work "Night is short, walk on Girl" way more than the "Tatami Galaxy". If you really want to watch a show that's way more abstract with it's messages than Tatami Galaxy or Monogatari than try watching "Revolutionary Girl Utena" instead. That show is so weird I had a very hard time figuring out what the message even was.
