Actually a lot of these show that he deliberately "punches" forward with his should and, often, his upper arm. Not a lot there that is legal at the point of contact...

A tackle has to be below the shoulder line, the player must not lift the ball carrier (typically), and there must be an attempt to grasp.... If you want to point your right shoulder, hit, then fling your right arm around with momentum, there is nothing in the laws to prevent this... If you want to point your right shoulder and then grasp with your left arm, you'd be ok, if you mess up and don't make the grasp (despite the law stating it only needs to be an attempt) then you'll probably end up in hot water...

I stopped playing union, in knowledge of how dirty and lazy they are. Saw a 20st guy stamping on players - but the player on the floor that god the stamp was the players head. After the second ambulance taking players away in that game. And wanting to keep my cranium in tact, seeing that county rugby was rife with toffs and backhanders, I quit. There’s a whole load of lacking discipline in union.
