@@OWGAC my sentiments exactly, would be great if all manufacturers added some sort of protection to their wheels, its a lot of money to get destroyed after one bad fall, expensive to put right.
@judgesfiveeight5 жыл бұрын
I appreciate how pragmatic and empirical your reviews are... you're never afraid to call it like it is. Don't lose that. For me, the Monster has just too narrow a "performance band" for me to justify the substantial investment. Also... something not directly mentioned... for all the safety gained on city streets that is afforded by the increased stability... there is also safety/stability lost in more pedestrian heavy environments due to the lack of mobility/torque. As always, it comes down to where you ride and what performance characteristics you enjoy/value most.
@zekerandolph13975 жыл бұрын
Robert Lynch The reduction in stall torque compared to an MSX is 17%. That’s too much of a penalty for you?
@judgesfiveeight5 жыл бұрын
@@zekerandolph1397 Absolutely. It's less about a raw motor torque measurement, than it is about the ration of torque to wheel diameter or torque to wheel weight. As I stated... it's about handling characteristics... particularly at low speeds when negotiating your way around pedestrian congestion. A smaller diameter, lighter, "quicker" wheel is empirically safer for all involved under such circumstances.
@zekerandolph13975 жыл бұрын
Robert Lynch Oops I wasn’t being precise in my statement. If they’re using the same motor, the stall _torque_ is the same, but the resulting _stall force_ is 17% lower. TL;DR: The stall torque is of course important, but you shouldn’t be complaining about it. The sluggish handling is mainly because it’s heavy AF. If you’re not reaching the stall torque, then you shouldn’t say you care about the wheel’s torque. It will handle more sluggishly, but that’s because it’s heavier. Namely, it’s the ratio of _rider weight_ to _wheel weight_ that matters for handling. A heavier rider on a lighter wheel will make the wheel more responsive (as long as he’s not hitting torque limit, but you’d have to be pretty heavy and accelerating pretty hard to do that on this motor). And a wheel that weighs half as much as you do... you just can’t push it around as quickly. Heavier wheels also are harder to steer, because the counter-rotating mass-your torso-is lighter in relation. As a result, for a given desired steering input, you need to rotate your torso more. Because there’s a physical limit to how much you can rotate your torso, this means you can’t command as large of a steering input. This is the main thing that makes it difficult to negotiate pedestrians. The wheel diameter also matters, because it increases the contact patch... which is great at high speed, but makes it yet further difficult to steer at low speed.

Hi on my monster I solved the problem I adapted a trolley handle that of the Imotion which in my opinion is also the most robust, versatile and with a good line. I simply attached it by means of brackets to the upper bar. I tell you that I feel very comfortable, it hasn't ruined the style at all and it is very comfortable in all situations. I measured the electricity used with a energy meter plug, 25% to 100% took only 1150wh electricity, it seems like only half of the battery works, 1554Wh. I think it may be some bad connection somewhere, as the voltage still shows 100v when measuring from the connector. They advise not to disconned any battery, due to the way the custom pack is made. One pack is split into the two sides. Still trying to find a solution with the seller (them checking with the factory). Oscillation?! I rode my MSX 100v over 31 miles all around Hawaii down around Pearl Harbor and had a blast but TWICE while accelerating I hit some rough pavement at about 35mph ish and got a really funky forwards backward oscillation. I put 2300 kilometers on my last one and never experienced that but I also don't think I ever hit rough roads at that speed before. It of course was very very freaky but both times I managed to stay on and bring it back down in speed and get it back under control. Perhaps I was too relaxed in my stance as stiffening up my stance I think might stop the issue but even still that's pretty crazy. Is this the oscillation you were talking about? Anyone else experience this? I did find the ultimate riding gear though which is the Dainese Racing 3 jacket and their Pony pants which are like full racing leather pants but without the knee pucks as we don't need them for EUC yet. This setup was only $700 At Orange County Dainese and I only found this setup after trying many others. Full motorcycle racing leathers like that will definitely work to save people's bacon if they ever do wipe out at those speeds and it was surprisingly affordable. Last time I bought a set of racing leathers it was $1800 not $700. Plus with the jacket that zips to the pants it's much easier to get into compared to a one piece suit. Looks super cool ripping around through traffic as well. Rock on EUC people's! Oh I do also still have some of the 1860Wh MSX 100v in stock both new & used. It's a whole new world with this 50% bigger battery than the standard unit. Call me at 800-707-2525. Or I have a deal on a only slightly used practically new 16X for just $1600.

@@skip123davis it's actually... not as hard as it may seem? it'll take persistence to first get the mechanics. I'd advise training next to a waist-high fence, grabbing on for assistance for the first 2-3 hours, even. once the basics are acquired, most of the skill is knowing how to properly mount and dismount. Best part? If you train on grass or something soft, you can drop the wheel no problem, worst case just jump off and walk! I won't deny it takes more time than many other devices, but the freedom and curiosity that it opens up is astounding... No speed necessary! Look into a wheel called the KS16s or a Gotway Mten3, see if it suits. Think about it this way, it's like riding a bike. It probably took about 1 hour to even sit on, right? and then a weeks practice to pedal and understand turns, same with unicycles! at low speeds too, 60-90% of "falls" are just you jumping off and walk-running. these things can take a beating and are worth learning if you stay curious~ :D Just some friendly encouragement from a young 20-something that's trained a few friends into the awesome wonder that it is. Stay curious!

@@slomnim thanks for your thoughts and encouragement simon. maybe this could help me build my balance - instead of highlighting it. do you have some thoughts on an euc that is inexpensive and useful to try out? i don't want to put a lot of money into it if it doesn't work out, you know? but has to be good enough that i might could succeed.

You don't need to be a hardcore enthusiast, this was the second wheel I bought, I live in Guangzhou, China, which is quite an aggressive place to ride. I'm by no means an ace rider, but the monster is very comfortable and relatively easy to learn. I am tall, heavy, I can't comment on smaller, lighter people.

I rarely hear from anyone who's in China, what's the PEV riding culture like there? are you able to rider where ever you like and as fast as you like? I'd love to see some videos!!
@mC_DiDiDiDiDi5 жыл бұрын
@@OWGAC there are not that many people riding in Guangzhou, it was made illegal a year or so ago, but like many laws the police just forget about it unless they want whatever it is you're using. I usually ride however fast I like unless there are police around because I don't want to give them an excuse. I remember last year riding by the river, and one particular area a security guard was upset with me riding, but other than that anywhere seems good, bar the obvious (government restricted areas). I did take some go pro videos, but they became corrupt, I'll need to do it again at some point. Mounted the camera to the wheel, had quite a cool view. Never seen anyone else with a monster. One thing I feel fortunate about is that I am in contact with people at Gotway, which makes it relatively easy to get parts and advice. Last year I overloaded the max weight by carrying 30kg of cat litter plus my body weight up a hill (I live on top quite a steep hill). The control board flipped out, so I replaced it with the updated version, and added two new fans in an updated position. Relatively easy job, no problems since. I also have an mcm4 back in London, I originally used the mcm4 here in Guangzhou until I decided more power was required: I actually bought the monster because I live on a steep hill and the extra power makes that climb much easier, especially when food shopping when the heat and humidity make the hill climb on foot a sweat fest. I am however considering a z10, just never got around to buying one as I am also quite a keen guitarist, and I've recently discovered the wonders of Eastman guitars (acoustics) quality-price ratio, which takes up a fair amount of expendable income.

I want one, but I don't have the money to get it. I may get one someday, and if I do I want to have a Batman helmet, and a really good cake so I can flutter in the air while ride up and down my hood. The only problem is I'm not going to be a crime fighter, and I'm not rich like Bruce Wayne so it's going to be awhile before I get that monster wheel. I could only dream, and hope my dreams come true to get one before they make a version for and make it real expensive.

Seeing you don't have any trolley It can't be the best wheel on the market... That's the reason I choose the ks 18xl. 115 Kms range not bad for only 1.5kw battery and 90kgs rider and very comfortable. Plus I don't need to fix any axle. Better reliability. Not to make gotway bashing but for the price they could make a better wheel...They falsely think their customers want only speed without reliability. Kingsong was founded by gotway former employee.

The monster is an extreme wheel and is mostly for people who have been riding an EUC for sometime and is curious to see what that next level of performance feels like. If you just have one wheel I agree that you shouldn't buy the monster. 18xl is a solid option, one of the few EUCs that have had very few issues

I have ordered the 84v because at the time the 3100wh 100v wasn't available and just wanted to the extra range and a little more speed than the 50kmh limit of my msuper v3s+. Although I don't think I will need the extra speed from the extra voltage I'm starting to wonder if I have made a mistake. Can anyone shed some light. I was thinking if I needed to I could get extra batteries and the 100v control board. I guess I will find out soon enough.
@OWGAC5 жыл бұрын
Unless you want to push 35mph + the 84v is perfectly fine. I honestly rarely do in my normal riding pattern but do appreciate the additional headroom available. But again it would only be worth the upgrade if you are a speed demon!

EUC maybe fun, but as a everyday ride...not so much. I don't want to put on my entire motorcycle gear and my business/work cloth in a backpack. Nope, to me this is nothing more, but a fun vehicle. And since I am from Germany, these EUC will never be streetlegal. 😂
@OWGAC5 жыл бұрын
Gears are only required if you want to push for greater speed. If you are traveling at the same speed as a bicycle, there are no reason why you would need more protection unless you are still learning how to ride. I have heard that the auto cartel is strong in Germany but they have to see that not everyone can drive to work, especially in a city?
