The lyrics are kinda sad and dark, but the music and melody are upbeat and happier. It kinda feels like a metaphor for dark personal times with the unwavering hope and belief that things will get better.

I've noticed that a lot of people are saying Owl City has changed. I'd say it has, but change is inevitable. I personally like both the 'older' songs as much as the 'newer' songs. It's like Lincoln Park; it's not that it gets worse as time goes on, it just naturally evolves to try to fit the atmosphere while being unique still. I enjoy all the music, after all that's what we come here to hear.
@kittycatcamryn94658 жыл бұрын
same, accutally, Owl City is a tie of the only artist that I like all of the music to. Right beside him is Maroon 5. But, even if I like 5, Owl City is my favorite of all the music, it's not because of voice, not because of his looks, but because of his complete creativity in expressing his self. don't get me wrong, I do absolutely love his voice and looks, but Owl City is one of the few people that can turn such a meaningful song, into a beautiful song that most people don't care what it's about because of how amazingly, astonishing the tune and creativity is.

This is one of the very few ‘modern’ artists I think I’ll listen to for the rest of my life. My music taste changes very frequently, but Owl City and Adam Young have been with me my entire life. Old songs and the new ones always resonate well with me, and it’s something I’m all too happy to share with friends, or play through earbuds when I need time to myself. This is important music, and it’s all thanks to this artist.

@catcactus12346 жыл бұрын
I think it’s an optimist vs pessimist situation here. It either means he kills himself or changes his life for the better depending how you look at it. Knowing Adam, he probably meant it as changing his life for the better, given how he holds Christian values very close to his heart. It would be unlikely for him to write songs about suicide in such a happy manner (he’s capable of making slow, emotional piano tracks so why choose such an upbeat, pop-y melody for a topic as a dark as this?)
@MagicXRoads5344 жыл бұрын
I always thought of the whole song as a pseudocide note (pseudocide is fake suicide btw) you've already noticed the suicide elements, but then "It's do or die"? clearly you're not going to die if you do it right.

He said he was going to release a bunch of EPs last year and it didn't happen. It kinda seemed like he was a little lazy about last years albums. This year he mentioned something about all the stress and frustration that comes with mainstream music in his latest update about this years upcoming project : Adam Young Scores. " As I found myself looking back on my own story, I realized the ups and downs of the mainstream music space have, at times, given rise to a degree of personal frustration and stress that affects everyone in the industry. By pausing to muse on the way things are in such a place, I find myself greatly inspired to use such trials and tribulations as the means to ignore any such “rules” the industry embodies. I consider myself fortunate enough to see the big picture from several angles, and after stopping to study over it, I suddenly feel a deep indwelling desire to make music for the sake of creating nothing but pure, bold, trailblazing art. No speed limits, no safety nets, no rules." -Adam Young It looks like we're getting some cool stuff from him this year though. "And so, as I listen to the works of the composers I first fell in love with, I feel a great longing to create my own version of that same wonder and euphoria that moved me as a young impressionable musician. I want to create worlds of sound that tell stories and tales in ways that cannot be described with words. I want to explore a vast, wild universe of storytelling and create in others the same fascination and curiosity I felt." -Adam Young
@cerulean22b699 жыл бұрын
yeah i agree, maybe the music industry has been stressing him lately. it does seem that way from what he wrote on Adam Young Scores.i liked Mobile Orchestra but it seemed a bit rushed, like it was put together just for the sake of making an album.i could be wrong about that though. still i am really excited about his new project! cant wait to see what he makes for this year.

So I walk alone down the darkest roads 'Cause I've always known how the story goes When the curtain falls I'll be wearing thin Clawing at the walls as they're closing in In this twisted plot I was destined for I'm an astronaut on the ocean floor So misunderstood 'till the bloody end How I wish I could do it all again It feels like I'm a lone survivor Forgotten in a dark and deadly world And on my own I walk alone To see the sun again I'd give anything But life demands a final chapter A story that we all must leave behind It's do or die, and this is mine The anthem of a bird with a broken wing It's another night of the living dead Like a viper bite in a spiderweb It's so deathly dark in the alleyway And a bleeding heart makes you easy prey I would run and hide for the afternoon With the butterfly in the panic room Though I won't be missed, I would say it's time For a different twist in the story line It feels like I'm a lone survivor Forgotten in a dark and deadly world And on my own I walk alone To see the sun again I'd give anything But life demands a final chapter A story that we all must leave behind It's do or die, and this is mine The anthem of a bird with a broken wing The anthem of a bird with a broken wing It feels like I'm a lone survivor Forgotten in a dark and deadly world And on my own I walk alone To see the sun again I'd give anything But life demands a final chapter A story that we all must leave behind It's do or die, and this is mine The anthem of a bird with a broken wing The anthem of a bird with a broken wing The anthem of a bird with a broken wing Tell the world I know that my mind is made It's a hard show, but I'm not afraid Though I won't be missed, I would say it's time For a different twist in the story line

His music always had this cheery, upbeat sound to it although the messages weren't always sunshine and rainbows, and the text was well thought out to symbolize all sorts of things- but this one is much more... powerful. This one inspires me. The last sentence is just so strongly said, with the background music lowering to emphasize the meaning behind it...

As someone who lost some of the closest people in my life, I agree entirely with you my friend. I am sorry for your loss, thank you for sharing your thoughts on here--an echo of my own. May you find some peace and happiness, god bless.

+danodude This is #unbelievable. Send a #Kamikaze after him! All the stuff in his house? We'll #Takeitallaway and then we'll all have a #goodtime sending him of into the middle of the #galaxies where he'll get hit by a #shootingstar or get serious #dementia. No one will send him #hospitalflowers cuz he'll never be able to get #backhome. >:)

some of us like this song, some love it, and some of us hold it dear to our hearts as a reminder that there is an end. and even though it may seem dark at the time, there is light at the end of the tunnel. only those who truely understand will see the true meaning of this song

I think Adam is referring to the fact that a lot of fans are angry with him ever since The Mid-summer station
@theroyalsilverowl15488 жыл бұрын
why are we mad at him since the Midsummer Station?
@dancedoctor10328 жыл бұрын
well some fans were unpset with the drastic change in sound from Adam, The Mid Summer station went in more of a pop direction in comparison to his previous work
@theroyalsilverowl15488 жыл бұрын
oh. well, I like anything he does. it's innocent and sort of a safe haven from other music. The midsummer ' s station is actually where I started.
@dancedoctor10328 жыл бұрын
I agree, I love all of Adam's work, it's a nice change from music that's on the radio

This song makes me think of a protagonist that's been through shit in a world that faces destruction(or already has and the protag. wants to fix it) and against all odds pulls through but not unscathed.

I will share the video from last night that I took of Owl City opening his show in Atlanta with this song which blew everyone away....it was so amazing. It was one of those rare times when the live song was even better than the recorded version if you can imagine. I always liked this song but now I love it...
