My favorite owl encounter happened at night. I went outside to check on how things were going. I was by the grain bins, and saw this gray undulating thing streak by. I then heard scuffling, and a rabit screech. Next came two crunches. It was silent after. Then I saw the undulating fly by me again. This time I could feel the air from it's wings. I never heard it in flight. It taught me why there are tales of ghosts and monsters at night.

I saw a wildlife video yesterday where they had a recording of an Owl trying to attack a Bald Eagle's Nest at night. The Owl gave up. The Bald Eagle was way too big to be prey, and the Bald Eagle made it clear it wasn't going to be prey.

Dr. Evan, about the 270º comment. Are you saying that the bird's range of neck movement is not measured starting from the forward looking position? I think you misunderstood the fact. the bird can almost rotate it's head 360º. 90º short. You aren't able to turn your head 180º, only 90º in a given direction.
