Tottenham fan here with a slight interest in Newcastle because of Trippier who’s always been a top lad. But the joy on display from the players and commentators is just brilliant. As someone brought up on watching FA Cup third round matches in the 1960s and 1970s, I still find it remarkable to see football being played, in January, on a billiard-table-like pitch. Back in those days pitches were invariably mud-baths and in the second half players were covered in so much wet mud it was impossible to see who was who.

Botman, Longstaff & Joelinton were the only 1st teamers in the lineup and Isak would usually be one but he hadn’t kicked a ball since Sept that’s why he got subbed at HT. Lascelles, Ritchie, Lewis, Manquillo, Dubravka, Anderson & Murphy never play! They barely even come on as subs in the prem. Lascelles, Manquillo, Lewis, Anderson & Ritchie have only made a couple appearances this season and it showed. St.Maximin & Wilson didn’t even travel, Howe was resting our strongest players for the carabao quarters on Tues. Not taking anything away from Sheff Wed tho, we should still have beaten them with the side we put out but we were a letdown and they were clinical and deserved the win.

Newcastle cant moan ,it all comes down to commitment ,Wednesday had it in spades last night but the Newcastle manager had no commitment as his winning side was downgraded by 8 players , a trend all to often these days citing more important commitments than cup games ,sadly the fans expect the best side to play every match not the reserves and so must expect they could well loose such games against their current winning form ,demand a change or suck it up

Eddie Howe is proving himself to be an excellent appointment. He’s got to prioritise the league and to an extent the cup game on Tuesday. I’m a Wednesday fan and thought we really stepped it up which was brilliant to see. I hope Eddie Howe gets the time to build something special at Newcastle; about time a young English manager gets a crack at winning things.
