I'm up too late enjoying this. 🥱Appreciate the words about needing meaning to get up each day and what that looks like practically. I'm at the start of a writing project and feel so vulnerable in it - needed this tonight. Fun fact, I co wrote a play way back in the 90's and our hero (in a coffee shop, of course) has a monologue that begins with, "Every super hero's mom is dead." And goes on to say that's why latte's are so popular because we all still want milk from Mommy. 😉(I think Blue Like Jazz came out around that time). Good to hear you both pressing in on the Dad stuff, too. Bed time, but I'm encouraged. (If you’re game, please pray for my movie to rock. Or at least not to stink). Bless you & G’night 🙏🏾

I've loved Donald Millers writing since I read "Blue Like Jazz" umpteen years ago and credit him with a lot of healing and growth that happened in me. "A Million Miles in a Thousand Years" changed me for sure! My only complaint is that his first books title should've never changed! lol

Thank you for this interview!! I have employed his learnings across our digital marketing business and it has helped so much. The funny thing is I had never seen his face or heard but once he spoke of story brand I realized "Man, no wonder I enjoy listening to this guest in this episode." haha.

It reminds me of Prov 3:21-23 TPT..."My child, never drift off course from these two goals for your life: to walk in wisdom and to discover your purpose. Don't ever forget how they empower you...."

He also did an experiment while in the concentration camp on hope. He observed that that once a person lost hope they would usually die very quickly.

I read Blue Like Jazz in high school and it was one of the few books of the time that I finished because I genuinely enjoyed it. I've never been great at writing but have been thinking about writing lately and I recall thinking (when I read Blue Like Jazz) that I'd never read anything in that style before and if writing could be like that then maybe I could be a writer, too.
